Top case rack attaches at these points. The top point is used by the Caribou side-racks.

The bottom point attached to this bar that goes underneath and bolts to the subframe.

Mounted up the Caribou top case (1550) on the Wee Strom this morning and then took it for a little 235 mile shakedown cruise. Road surfaces varied from washboard dirt to bumpy asphalt backroads (nicely twisty ones of course) to the evil concrete super slab. Speeds from a near crawl to 85mph (gps speed) with nary a twitch.

Everything is still as tight as it was when I left home. Carried the dslr/camera bag/tripod without issue.

Bottom line? Me likey! I'd buy another one if I had someplace to mount it.

Near Lyons Ferry, WA. This is just down the canyon from Palouse Falls, upstream of the 2 dams.

Roger, feel free to use any pic you'd like. Let me know if you want a bigger version.

Sorry, no plans for the Tiger. EDIT 2009: We now offer a complete side case system for the Tiger, please see our website for details.

R_W, send me a PM and I'll send you some new lid lanyards.

Initially we used steel lanyards with eyelets crimped on the ends, but the ends had a tendancy to pull out. The plastic ones we use now are rated at 35 lbs each, so it takes quite a bit of weight to break both of them.

well, this wasn't the first time it happened just the straw that broke them.

I have generally abused the snot out of the cases and racks. To put it in perspective: I think the Pelicans themselves are the weakest part of the set.

    Hi Roger,
Just wanted to let you—and the good folks here—know that everything arrived perfectly and went together just as well. I'm thrilled!

What's the timing on the R1150GS top case?

Thanks again for great service and a great product.

I'm finishing up the Polaris ATV today (pics coming soon), and I have one other project before getting to the 1600 (40 liter) and 1520 (25 liter) side case options. Note the 1600 will compromize passenger foot peg room, so this will be a one-up touring side case system. I think mid-May time-frame for the 1600 side cases. EDIT 2009: 1600 and 1520 cases are no longer options.

When the side cases are off the bike does the mounting hardware allow them to set flat (no rocking) on a table top. Can you set them on grandma's antique mohagahany table w/o sctracting the finish, how about a granite counter top?

You need to set them on the bed at the Super 8. The brackets on the back of the case will not allow them to sit flat on a table, they will rock a bit.

    Hi Roger,
I'm interested in your rack and topcase for the BMW Dakar. I mocked one up at home to see what it looked like with a 1550 case. I prefer the rack to follow the lines of the side cases and BMW rack.(as per photo-note sidecases are 1520's). I get the impression from your sample photos that your rack has been designed to be more level with respect to the ground. Is that correct?
    Thanks, Art

The Caribou rear cargo rack is pretty much level with the stock rear rack. It may not be exact, but it is close.
