I'll stick with my beer can alcohol stove. Pretty much the same setup but it actually puts out enough heat to boil stuff at altitude.

On the official website I noticed they had an alcohol adapter, which I had planned to make anyway.
I've used them all, and each has good and bad points. This new Esbit has built in wind protection.
I collect stoves, mostly backpacking ones, but a few others as well. Here is my collection before it grew, probably three times that many now.:lol3

It's almost as addictive as gun collecting, cheaper too.

Probably the best design out there, that is why an old one on ebay will run you more than a newfangled stove.

Has anybody received their new esbit stove yet?

I'm >< this close to buying one, but the only review on REI is saying that it doesn't work any better than the old, fold-out style. I have a fold-out style esbit stove and find it hard to believe that this new one isn't more efficient with its wraparound style base.

I recieved mine and am very pleased. I will do a head to head test one one these days.
There is no way the old one would outperform this unless you used alot of foil wind protection. With the new one it appears you will not have to mess with foil. (old esbits worked fine if you did the foil wrap thing).
The parts nest together in a small light package, comes with a mesh bag, in a moment of brilliance they put a lip on the pot so it fits down into the burner body, and cant slide off, plus it appears my larger Ti pots can still be used if I want to cook and eat out of a pot ( the stock pot, similiar to a jet boil, is not really the right shape for eating out of)
It is worth the $30, but I used the 20% off one item coupon, and my dividend.

It could by placing it on top of the raised area that the pellet goes, or maybe even one of my miniature ti alcohol stoves.
Anyway I am getting ready for test today, I will compare these stoves for boiling times as they come out of the box, no additional wind protection, calm day 45 deg, using my Evernew Ti pot on the stoves that do not have a pot, same water temp amount and temp for each.
The Jet boil will kick their asses, but that is not the point. results later today.

Yeah, and my MSR dragonfly will destroy the jet boil . . . but again . . . that isn't the point.

Waiting on the results . . . :lurk

With 1 1/2 cups of water, the dragonfly will boil in pretty much the time it takes to turn the flame adjuster all the way open :lol3 It really is silly. I've never timed it, but it honestly just takes seconds.

I just want something smaller and lighter. I've got the fold-out esbit, but it doesn't get my water as hot as I'd like with just one cube.

You should try the Primus EtaExpress :deal

I'd be interested in seeing how well your new Esbit does. I'm always looking for the perfect small self-contained brew kit. The best I have managed so far is this:

Which is a Tibetan Titanium pot and Tatonka alcohol burner and stand... but the fuel bottle is extra, and I'm using a home-made HD foil windshield.. I guess a few fuel tabs will fit inside the Esbit pot along with the windshield?
