I have been using the extra time in the hotel to further organize my stuff, figure out what I forgot (so far, 2 things - one of which is pretty important), and also the assembly of those things I can prior to arriving at the bike tomorrow morning.

First, the Fastway Adventure Footpegs in black. I put the traction studs into the footpeg.

Next, I assembles the Locking Garmin Zumo 660/665 GPS mount V2. I installed the mount on the back for the upper windshield bar and the Zumo GPS cradle to the front. I also ordered the GPS mount adaptor from Touratech, but it has not arrived yet.

Just fiddling with this version of the locking mount, I can say it seems much more secure than the other 2 I have for my other bikes. The older mounts have a different locking mechanism that, while secure, is not as secure feeling as this new one. Here is a photo of the other style mounted on my G650X Challenge.

I also have these on my G650X Challenge and love them. I am a very large man and these are super wide pegs. The whole with of my boot is supported by it. I feel very secure when standing.

Here is a photo from that build. It shows the size difference between the Fastway, the stock BMW, and the Touratech the PO had on it when I bought .

Can't wait to see pictures of your new ride on your way back home, what a great way to start the year and congrats on the new bike !!! Fly n' ride was always on my mind when I was looking for my bike, it sounded like such an adventure riding back across the country (especially getting such a bike), but "got lucky" and found the perfect 2012 GSA, 20 minutes from where I live, so I just had a friend drop me off and it was not much of an adventure riding it home ... Oh well, I'll have plenty of opportunities to get out there ... Keep us posted.

Good luck on the trip. Nice triple black. Did you install that built in tool box? Looking forward to the trip and pre ride farkel fest.

Yesterday, I went to Capitol BMW in Raleigh, NC to pick up my bike. Jon, the service manager, assisted me with everything. Since it was pretty cold outside, and it looked like rain all day, he allowed me to farkle my bike inside his service bay. I installed all of the non-electrical stuff yesterday and it looks great. I did take a bunch of install photos, but I left the adaptor for my camera to my iPad at the dealership. Today, I'll be heading back for the electrical install: GPS, heated gear pigtails, radar receiver, aux lights, HID headlights retrofit, oh, and the oil cooler guard.

I'll be posting photos tonight of the build, including: foot pegs, skid plates, fuel line guards, throttle potentiometer guard, washable air filter, tool box, and supplemental engine guards.

I picked up my last GSA in NC a couple years ago and road it back to NYC. The high the whole ride back was 25F.

I bought heated gear and it was delivered the day before I flew. I installed it untested and road it back. It was a life safer. Also a life safer my sister and her family were visiting friends in Roanoke Va, so I crashed her friends house for the night unannounced.

I arrived home 12hrs before that 19" snow storm shut down NYC. Ah good times.

My new 2012 is only about 3 miles awaiting pick up. The riding adventure isn't there this time, it's just the lost check in the mail for 2 weeks now...

Good luck with your ride, have fun.

    Photos as promised...

The bike at the dealership service center. It has been fully checked out for me and had the ASC option retrofitted and programmed. The bike has every option except tire pressure monitoring and the alarm.

    The final drive guard installed...

    And from below...

I do not think this will really protect the final drive off-road so ill probably find a skid plate type guard. The above guard will definitely help in a road riding get-off...
