    slow starter motor
so instead of just pushing the button as on any fuel injected bike I just push the starter button and give it a handfull of throttle

    does it every time

but will change the starter for the one from the 1290
    KTM pays the bill

getting a 1290 starter which turns a tad faster
    should do the trick

    1190 is back
    1290 starter does the trick
    electronics upgraded to 2014 specs
so the "if-you-slam-the-front-brake-mid-turn-you're-a-fool-but-won't-fall-on-your-face" ABS is active

don't have a clue why they invent shit like that
my first ever ABS bike and I ride on and off road since 1996
probably to show others it can be done
    :freaky

keep you posted on the next 'glitch':norton

    Glad to hear that!

Was it your dealer or a technician from Ktm Belgium itself who replaced the starter for the 1290 model? Have you had some time to evaluate this fix?

My dealer doesn't seem to be that eager to replace the starter... He said Ktm is looking for another fix and until then he asks me to start the bike with a little throttle (as he was told by steve from Ktm)...

Is your dealer replacing all the 1190 starters with 1290's or have you heard about someone else's 1190 where they are doing this? I just got the bike back so it's just now I can see if the little throttle trick is flawless...

I haven't... I won't be making any expences myself to fix this...

According to my dealer KTM is also experimenting with other batteries in order to fix this issue.

My dealer states - after a talk with KTM Belfium - that replacing all the 1190 starters for 1290 model would mean a DISASTER for the company...

I think disaster is a bit stretching it. And in the end it will be those savings they made during development that will bite them back.

Can't deny you've got a point but I can only tell you guys what my dealer is telling me...

And I have to say I have trust that they will fix this soon and I positive they won't charge us for this (that wouldn't be possible according to me...!) but in the meanwhile...! Sucks donkey 🏀!

dealer is working on the R again
    doesn't start
something to do with valves this time after 2014 electronics update
how the valves can be affected by that I don't know

    :eek1

4th week without the new bike

    I've about had it
    bus to work
    bike to work
    it's fuckin' winter here....

and the battery has nothing to do with this starting shit
    battery is A-okay

my good friend to whom I sold my second 950 lent me his bike
so I'm riding to work on my old 950S GO:D

    meanwhile I'm freakin pissed

    got the bike back
has been sitting at the dealer's 4 weeks in total now

so got an new 'varta' battery altough the last one was okay
    complete reset (again)
    valves reset to exact values
new starter from 1290R which cranks at normal speed and no longuer in slow-motion

    but it ain't 100% yet

if you want to be sure it starts every time you have to give it some throttle when starting:huh

so I rode it home like I stole it:lol3
figured I had to make the best of it now that it finally started

    next morning, 05.30, temperature 10°C
start the bitch up for the ride to work
sits at idle the time to close the gate

    get on it and go
50 meters in the ride the oil-pressure light comes on and warning 'oil pressure' on the left screen:(:

I thought "fuck it" and continued
2 km into the ride it disappeard
    called the dealer
told me to come in asap and keep him posted on when the light came on
"oil pressure" was dealt with during the second week of sitting at the dealers and we thought it was sorted... not

riding back home at 16 pm same scenario
    stating
time to attach the helmet and put on my gloves
    warning light
nothing in the left screen tough

5 minutes into the ride (city so 1st and 2nd gear) it disappeared again

    back to the drawing board:deal

The problem with most Dealers nowadays, especially when it comes to electrical faults, is that they plug in whatever manufacturer diagnoses computer they are given and it tells them where the problem could be. For some reason the mechanic operating the diagnostics computer forgets everything he learned in the past about taking a methodical common sense approach to a problem, and believes what the computer is telling him!

    not this one...

he's my dealer since the beginning so 10 years now
    hell of a mecanic
and a hell of a rider, finsished a couple of Dakar races as private racer

he doesn't believe the result the cimputer gives him
    neither do I

he's one of the few old school mechanics still around and that's exactly the reason I'll stick with him

problem is bad engineering of the bike

    still starts and runs
oilpressure light still on every time you start the bike cold
    goes away after 5 minutes

KTM Belgium says no way the oil pump is gone
so it has to be the pressure switch

I think both are okay and there is a problem with the filter cartidge not letting enough oil through when cold

    anyway, I don't care
they tell me everything is all right so I keep on riding till the dealer has time to look into the issue:D

I had similar. The 1290 starter cured the cold starting and the oil pressure light was due to a twisted oil filter, had it changed by dealer, apparently common problem especially if motor not allowed to warm up and give it too much acceleration when staring off. Now I am aware of this I no longer have oil light issue.
