Can anyone tell me what the best time of year do this. Specifically, march, April or may? This is going to be my big trip for the spring. I don't need route species, just timing so we can plan vacation time accordingly.
I would say April. It will be warm in the higher elevations, but not killer hot in the valley.
I just wanted to know where the pics were taken.

Planning for next year. In either the AZBDR or the UTBDR, do you need spark arresters? In Arizona, what would be the last month that you would ride the route before it gets too cold?
Yes you need spark arrestors here in AZ, same in UT.
It gets hot in the lower elevations late May, cools off again in mid-October. We don't really have "cold" like you do in IA.
Well . . . that sucks. I have Gualdi cans that came on my bike, so . . . I suppose I would need new cans??? Yuck.
CJ Designs sells an FMF spark arrestor adapter. I ran those with my Akro's for a couple of years. Might fit the Gualdi's too.

Nope. No love there. Those are 47-48mm, and my exhaust has 30mm openings. Uugh.

i've been told that is little colorado river on navajo land.
Well that makes more sense as I've heard the BDR is largely along the eastern half of the state.
And besides.. you can't camp up on edge like that at Toroweap.
My understanding is (i have not seen the finalized track yet) the northern end of the AZBDR is to end relatively close to the southern start of the UTBDR, thus creating a through route.
The IDBDR (maybe ridden this summer? but i'm not privy to that info) southern start will then be near the northern end of the UTBDR and thus create a Mexico to Canada route (AZ>UT>ID) to compliment the CDR http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=763745 .
You will need a Navajo land permit as this route travels through ALOT of Navajo land. Rob W. has said to me the dirt roads on the Navajo Nation are awesome.
I love that tree! This one is close to Rug Road/Mammoth.
