I am not sure where section one ends, but I did not really enjoy the first leg from Dell City to Queen. Somewhat scenic once leaving the pavement near Queen all the way to Carrizozo. Carrizozo to Elephant Butte not so much. Have not been further north yet. (I have been doing it in pieces on different trips, staying in Ruidoso at night).

Section one from Dell City to Pinon is less likely than the mountain sections to be impassable due to mud, but you're not out of the questionable terrain until you reach Russel Gap.
When you leave CR413, the road is not maintained very well for the next 30 miles or so and there are several places where heavy rain will leave washouts and muddy conditions.

:deal If you head off the pavement in NM when it is raining/snowing you should be prepared to stay the night after your wheels turn into useless, chocolate covered donuts. (Also there are rumors that it is possible to destroy a clutch in an effort not to quit when the going gets impassable.)

The rumor is true for me at least. I trashed my clutch so bad on this trip that I was able to push the bike in gear with the clutch out with no problem.

Not me, but my bike looked just as bad.

New Mexico Hwy 137 is closed
You may not be able to get to CR413 From Dell City...
The only access would be from the Carlsbad side
Or you can take NM 506 from Dell City to Pinon.
Also likely to be muddy with all the recent rain

Hey Britome- lets us know of the conditions when you can. I may be doing it in the next week or so. We just got hammered down here with rain.

With a name like "Texas mud taco" I'll do anything you want! We fly in today. Trip has been in the works for a long time. At the airport right now. Hope to pull into "weed" by late afternoon.

As I have service, I'll update this thread. Our crew is prepared to stop, camp, smoke and drink on the side of the trail at a moments notice. It is called "vacation."

Brian, looking forward to your picks. Give us a ride report, if you can. From where you are north, is my next area to ride. Have been going it solo. Really ought to have at least one other along. Have fun, be safe.

Enjoy the route. Knocked it out last May on the Super Tenere and now thinking of going back and ride it on the 250. But then there is the MABDR looming on the horizon. Just a comment with no intent of a segway.

Went back last week and finished up where I left off back in April when I ran into that snow storm that dumped a bunch of snow on parts of NM and Colorado and had to cut it short.

The motorcycle weather Gods smiled on me this time.

Of course it had to start clouding up.

    Yeah I was hating life.

Great ride. Kudos for the guys who put it all together. If your thinking about doing it go. You wont be disappointed.

Yup. I ran into the storm right where the BDR crosses 60 last time so I kinda picked up from there. Still went to Weed and accross but the pics I posted are all north of 60.

Planning some trip for Feb 2018, is the NMBDR unrideable in Feb?

All but the desert sections likely unrideable due to snow.

And cold. Most mornings at elevation it was in the 30's in May.

The higher elevation after Luna will probably be closed. The road opened the last week if May but still had snow drifts at the first couple of days of June when I rode it this year.
