I have an appointment with a local guy that works at a stickershop, he's going to make the "kneerubbers" out of stickerfoil as well as the striping.
    Will be ready Fridayafternoon/ Saturdaymorning.

Put the tank on today, connected all the fuelhose, plugged in an extra in-line fuelfilter and started the old compressor, very nice to hear it run again.

Was even better driving it a couple of miles to check everything :clap

Fuelcock is leaking on "off" and "reserve", threads are terrible so I ordered a new one.

I leave the sidepanels off, my wife sanded and painted the subframe and framerails that come into sight black. I sandblasted the batterytray and sparypainted it black ( as well as the battery itself, was a white one )

    Luggagerack is also mounted.

    Piccies, just for fun :D

Time for a little update I see :D

Had the stickers put on the tank by the stickershop. He did a great job. BMW logo in metal on the tank too

    Found a /5 headlightbar:

    Cool pic:

    Here's a periodcorrect navigationsystem :rofl

Last weekend tug and hack were divoced ( but it was a friendly seperation :D )

Took it to the garage of a friend of mine ( 2 hours drive ) for a Leading Link.

This is the way it looks now, waiting for the work to begin:

Suspension will be these "brand unknown" shocks which will be painted black/silver like the old Earls shocks:

Braking will be by the sexiest callipers around ( 6 pot Grimeca's ):

Leading Link will be made along the same lines as the one he built for his own "Goldwing"hack:

MZ got a new coat of paint in Fordson Grey:

To keep part of the patina I put some coats of clear laquer on the front. I ride this hack in winter so it does need good rustprevention.

It snowed last weekend ( all gone now ) so I went out playing :D

Hope to show you more pics of the LL soon !

    Erwin Hellracer, Erwin :D

But yes, that's why I waited for him to finish his house first. LL's were supposed to be built last winter but his workshop was full of buildingtools and stuff from his house. I wanted to ride this summer so I waited untill now :D

Great work, Max! I know your MZ is a labor of love, but I really dig the Beemer. The LL's will make it all complete.

Any chance you do up a run of 10 or 20 of these "period correct" nav units for distribution here in the States? :lol3

Well, time for an update, Erwin has been working hard on my Leading linkfork

He turned down the original axle

Made a cap for the end

    Which he welded on

All parts machined, inner big rings have bearings in them for the caliperbrackets

    Axle with disk and caliper

Turning down the tops of the forklegs

Trying to figure what measurements need to be done

To reduce trail he lowered the front of the bike by about 5 cms so the frontend won't stick out too far

Cutting the bottom of the legs

First testfit with all the components

He then found out ( as he feared from the beginning ) that the legs interfere with the policeissue frontfender I have

He decided ( after some emailing with me of course ) to turn the legs just a bit outward, meaning he had to make all kinds of marks and stands to keep the measurements

And it all worked out well

Hardly noticable ( and on a bike with hanging tits it's not a problem she has a bit of X-legs is it ? :D )

He had to redo the bottomends of the forklegs

    It all worked out fine

This is what it looks like now ( Easter 2013 ), he bent the bottom just a little bit more to get it horizontal

I started this post with "a short update" but I edited and removed "short" :eek1:lol3

Hi Prmurat, I just recently found out they are Fournales. I contacted them last week with some questions and one of those questions is their recommandation for pressure.

Millennium Falcon: I'll ask Erwin for some info on the material !

Millenium Falcon, this is what Erwin answered:

De poten is 38x5 preciziebuis st.35 en dan teruggedraait tot 37

De schommel is gemaakt van 1" constructiepijp, st 33 koud getrokken. Wanddikte 2,65 mm

    Which means:

legs are 38 mm x 5 precisiontube st. 35 ( whatever that may be :D ) turned down to 36 mm

Bottom ( what's that part called anyway :huh ) 1" constructionpipe st. 33 cold drawn.

Thank you for the interesting writing and photos. My first bike was an MZ ETS 250, I do miss it sometimes
A friend in the former East sent me a photo of Dr. Walter Kaaden, with his autograph signature. My friend worked for IFA for a long time.
