I love a good photograph taken at night and hope to become better at these. Stars! Star Trails! Glowing City Lights! Illuminated Campsites! Night Landscapes! Long Exposures! You name it!

If you are nocturnal, INSPIRE US!

    I'll start.

These were taken on bike trips, but didnt get the bike in there. Should have some more from Peru and Bolivia in a couple months.

Canon 40D EFS 17-55, F2.8, 30 sec exposures, ISO 800. Used Chris Shurs PS action to the combine the frames.

    From Granview Campground, California.

Sweet! Layering multiple exposures eh? I've got to try that, I've never had luck with those star trails!

Say, I recognise that fish scale :D

That is a world famous fish scale for sure. Star trails are really easy, just open up the lens, 30 sec, 800 ISO or 1600 ISO if you have a really clean chip like in the 5D, and let it run until the battery dies. I shoot at Medium Jpeg since its quicker to process.

Then download the PS action from Chris and follow his instructions.

    http://www.schursastrophotography.com/software/photoshop/startrails.html

After the stack is done I will stretch it and boost the saturation a bit in PS to bring out the dimmer stars, then maybe use a little noise ninja on the darker background if its needed. You can have all kinds of fun with lighting up objects with a light, campfire, etc, or start shooting as the moon is setting to light up the surrounding area etc.

Nice star trails and Milky Way Crashmaster!:thumb I've been thinking of trying this download http://www.startrails.de/ to stack multiple images, but is seems like so much work to shoot so many exposures. I'll check out the link you provided as well when I get around to trying this method. The star trail I posted was only one RAW exposure f 3.2, iso 200, 45 minutes. The in-camera noise reduction and Lightroom was able to clean it up pretty good. I haven't had much practice since.

    Beautiful images Antontrax. :bow

There is a nice step-by-step star trails tutorial here: http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/725769/0

Naw, I've got a lot to learn from you when it comes to nighttime photography :bow

Too much work to shoot all the exposures? Maybe you're missing that essential photo accessory of the liquid kind :D
