    okay guys, i am in the first stages of planning a moto trip from sacramento to Cabo san Lucas and back, down the Baja peninsula in April 2018. I would like to find a good group of riders to go with. What i am planning is almost all road (paved and lots of dirts and sand) and trail riding, i am not planning to just go rip through the desert into the unknown like its the baja 1000. We will have lots of off road riding but in the baja that is still technically still "a road". As of now i am planning for about 2 1/2-3 weeks give or take and am flexible to accomodate if several other rider need to shorten it. but im really thinking 2 weeks would be the shortest we could go to enjoy the entire peninsula. We would be camping at several locations and a few little hotels and ranches. You would need camping gear, and a tank that can get at least 180 miles. becasue gas can be an unknown down there. But anyways this is just to put the feelers to see who has always wanted to do the baja and have the safety of a group vs going it alone. Here is a really great video for some inspiration, if you havent seen it already.

    awesome, auburn is a great area, i would love to live there if it was closer to work. i have a 2012 DR650 with a hand full of mods and a 5.2 gal acerbis tank. i would love to do 3 weeks and i can for sure do that but we'll see if there is a group and what they can swing. i know we're lucky to be able to take that much time off.

    Hey Charles - this is Patrick, here's my ADV Rider handle. (Get it? V-Strom?) Anyways, looking forward to talking soon so we can keep working on our plans! 3 weeks is doable for me, and I also like the idea of trucking/trailering bikes to San Diego to maximize our time in Baja.

    awesome guys!! i am all for anyone who wants to go, i am still planning but its going semi slow until i can get at least a few others fully committed! sorry its taken me a few days to get back to you (cyclenaut) and (dirtpatch) ive been pretty busy around here. cyclenaut i really like that idea and will have to get in touch with you through PM and see what your game plan is. just for everyone else' awareness i am hoping for a 50/50ish camping hotel stay and a 60/40 split for dirt and pavement riding. As of now this is my short list of stops i am wanting to make, i know they might not all happen though.

    * cross at Tecate but open to another crossing if we meet up with cyclenaut
    * Camp canon De Guadeloupe hot springs, either down or on the way back up
    * Mikes sky ranch
    * the Observatory just south of mikes called observatory san pedro martir (you can also camp here or stay in a cabin)
    * Camp on the beach at alfonsinas
    * swing through coco's corner
    * Bahia de los Angeles
    * San igncacio
    * some whale watching at Laguna san Ignacio
    * Mulege
    * Loreto
    * camp at punta Mechudo (this is just north on punta Coyote at the north end of the bay La Paz is on and we would be riding a dirt road i have read about from Ciudad Constitucion)
    * La Paz
    * CABO!!

    so thats all i have so far and i know most of that is on the Sea of Cortez side the only thing i have so far on the pacific side is the whale watching.

    what does everyone else have on there want to do or see list?

    so after playing with some others GPX routes and reading ive come up with this so far, and either crossing at tecate or Mexicali but this planning is tough when i dont know exactly what to expect and trying to fit in all the stops i have read about, but this is just a very rough draft and not finished yet

    hey all just keeping the thread alive after the holiday, i hope everyone had a great thanksgiving! Here is an updated route, green is south and red is north, with a day or two off in the mix, because i would like to do a day off for whale watching and for all those involved im pretty open from mid march all the way through april if we need to slide the trip forward. Hopefully we get some 100% commitment soon!

    Funny, but we met Brad in Baja during the filming of this video. He stayed at Casa Del Sol in BOLA with us. We kept bumping into his crew all the way down to San Ignacio. Super nice guy.

    Thats pretty bad ass that you ran into them while they were filming, its one of my favorite videos to watch for a little Baja inspiration! How was Casa Del Sol? would you recommend staying there?

    As for the trails, that is all i have been able to piece together form other ride reports and GPX files i have found, most of the the ones i used were from Moto Vaquero and lots of Big Dogs, thank you to them both for putting their files out there for all of us and doing very thorough RR's. I know they are older rides and the terrain has changed quite a bit since they were published. But i am very open to input from others. From experience were would you take an easier route? Also that route is a rough plan and i leave knowing deviations will have to be made along the way, but since i have never ridden any of the baja before please do give input, it will be welcomed with open arms!

    If you download the REVER app they have a track through Baja preloaded on there. Never ridden the route but may be worth some investigation.
