I rode this a month ago -- thank you for the route, it was a lot of fun.

The "poor road" was a challenge since we had significant rain a few days prior. There was still water draining from the fields down through the ruts. Partway through I stopped to see where my buddy was, he had turned around. Stopping also had the side benefit of catching my breath and wonder what else lie ahead. I was glad I just swapped the Trailwings for knobs on my DR.

Down by the closed road/bridge I saw a very large dog in the distance. I was alone at this point so I didn't want to tangle with trouble. As I got closer it was a big fluffy dog with a collar so I hoped he was friendly. He didn't even look up as I rode by. I provided entertainment for him as I maneuvered the bike under the metal bars blocking the bridge.

Hey guys, I live down here in Dixon, IL and rode the first half of this route yesterday. Unfortunately I have some bad news...

The "poor road" section is no longer public land. I was stopped by a guy in camo at the end of it that kindly explained to me it's now private, owned by the farmer up the street. The portion of county divide Rd to the south of the intersection with Krise Rd is still public. So instead of turning right onto Kempel, I would recommend staying on Kent down to Hairpin Rd, turn right, then right on county divide, and left on Krise.

Other than that the first half of the route was great. I had to stop in Elizabeth and high tail it back to Dixon. Looking forward to completing the second half sometime soon.

Thanks for the heads up MU, I'll make some adjustments and post up the revised track hopefully this week sometime. I knew it was just a matter of time before that part of County Divide Road would be off limits. It's in the best interest of the Townships to keep all the miles of road they can to receive County and State funds even if parts are un-maintained. At some point though liability comes into play or the funding bodies take a road trip inspection. If the road crumbles into nothing (and those who have been there can tell you there isn't much left) it often gets deeded back to the adjoining property owner. There is also a bridge in there that is near collapse. We will miss you County Divide but the memories live on.

Interesting to hear that land gets deeded over like that. I'm glad I got to ride through it before the guy approached me, there definitely was no bridge left when I went through:

The southern half of county divide wasn't maintained very well and Krise road DEFINITELY was not maintained, so there's still a fun time to be had in that little area.

Got to continue this route a bit today. Picked up where I left off and rode the segment from Elizabeth to Galena. Just gorgeous. Ran out of daylight for the run from Galena back to Mt. Carroll. The trail after leaning my bike under the guardrail on that bridge was quite a bit of fun.

Hey Gerken, finally had an opportunity to finish the last third of this ride yesterday. Perfect day, no hiccups. We ended up blasting from Dixon up to Elizabeth (via Scenic Ridge Rd from Savanna) and picked up the route there, running counter-clockwise. I was able to take two other guys new to dual-sporting along with me. Two DR650's and a WR250R. Thanks again for putting it together!

I went out with Mu the first time on this ride, and attempted to tackle it myself monday. followed the route counter-clockwise and had a blast, until I ran into a flat tire just before loading the second track( started with 4,3) not sure of my exact location but made it to the cool set of tunnels. tried to make a roadside repair but had issues with a valve core on my brand new tube! hoping to finish the route this weekend where I left off. The local farmer that helped me the best he could was great, and even tossed me a couple free beers, despite me trying to pay for his efforts in patching a tube. great ride and track. certainly a must to check out if you're close to the area

I am the king of flat tires so don't feel alone. Many of the local vehicles tend to lose hardware and sharp cargo so fate will often rear it's ugly head. Glad to see you had a good time despite inflation woes. Yes, most of us farmers are quick to lend a hand but free beers? You found a special one. Ride safely and often.

I figured if anything, I would get a flat from hitting a turtle! haha I saw so many of them out on the road. I ended up picking up a ridiculously serious thorn.

Terry, you have some of the best routes I've seen. The best part for me is that I have a connecting route that is interesting and fun right from my door and it's only about an hour out here. I'm going to have to check this one out maybe this weekend. I've already been back to ride that route we did on the large group ride earlier in the season and I just love it. Thanks for sharing and all the effort you put into these routes!

I agree with kderacing, although far from my door, Terry's got some good routes and likes to share them. Thanks Terry.

..just wanted to chime in to thank @Gerken and keep this thread as well as these tracks alive! A friend and I rode the route this past weekend and it was absolutely incredible. We rode out from St. Charles Illinois on rt64 for 95miles before hooking up with the tracks in Mt. Carroll. We rode a DR650 and a KLX250. Headed out on a Saturday morning, camped in Galena, then continued the route home on Sunday. Ok, enough about us, here's some pics: thanks again!
