well another successful ride is on the book. we all met at the 101 as planned but that is about as planned as it got. after a lengthy discussion in the parking lot and some high tech electronic plotting we headed southwest towards our destination. heck, what destination. we sometimes and not always no what the daily requirements are. food, fuel fun. atlast we arrive around toledo bend lake and fuel and eat. man we are on a roll two out of three objectives behind us and half a day to ride left. my inner voice tells me often that something great is just ahead. crossing the dam at the sabine pass we are in texas, you know the feeling, the road signs remind you often. one thing that i have often observed about texas is the sheer number of historic markers that are always posted on the road sides. anyway, the state or continent, depends on which way you are going, has some of the finest secondary roads in the states. about an hour of riding around the lake, texas side, finds us back on the flour de leaf side again. you know the world renown state that offers you swamp people and duck dynasty. what a legacy we have and believe me we are world known for these fine works in the acting and education dept. (gotta love it) we stop in anacoco,la to get another set of directions as GPS navigation is not an op. with the ridgerunner and myself. have always favored paper as my navigation weapon of choice as it will serve you in many ways. a riding friend with us has a smart phone,so he thinks, but time will reveal this as a myth. we stop in hornbeak or something like that and decide to head us la hwy. 392. nice road with some fine little twist and turns and low traffic. all was nice and then the hard surface degraded to gravel. this was nice but not expected along a major state hwy. we headed on for a bit until we started seeing figures along the roadside with mock weapons,OK i will go ahead and say it assault weapons damn it. then the sign came up that stated DANGER live rounds and munitions. this is where the smart phone came out as we had no maps of our home state with us. smart phone was of no use as this place was not for mortals to be riding adv. bikes on . we were to travel for about an hour is this forbidden zone. crossing many low water sites and turning a few times. PS road turns were marked with arrrows made from limbs. old time weigh points for all you gps folks. many mock villiages and destroyed cars trucks and helios in this area. at this time things are not looking so good. finally we see a camera on a tower off the road and all wave at it. sure enough help comes really quick. this is fed. land in the middle of live fire exercises and we werent invited. as luck would have it we were nicely escorted off the area and not detained. low light conditions and one rider who opted to buy the low budget model klr,no lighting, we headed in for the day. safely home for all again. and as i said in the beginning another adventure for the books. hope you all enjoyed the ride as much as i. thanks alan:nod

Sounds like riding on Camp Shelby down near Hattiesburg, MS. Nothing like hearing howitzer shells going overhead, especially when the person aiming them is doing their "one weekend a month or two weeks a year" in the National Guard:D.

    Good times!

trailrider we would welcome the company of you and any others that would join our rides. the ridgerunner and i happen to work at the same place. this affords us plenty of riding time. we just happen to be off again this weekend and next weekend also. if you would be interested in riding just throw down a place and time frame and hopefully one or both of us can make it. oh! by the way we live in the monroe area. it was good of you to respond to our ride report as there is not many riders in our area as it seems. hopefully we will meet up in the near future. safe riding: alan :2guns

I will let you all know a week in advance if it is not raining saturday i will ride someplace in the arklamiss area. maybe we will generate some interest in this area one of these days. hope to see someone step forward and name a meeting place. ridgerunner and i are beginning to get misplaced alot lately. this may be bad or maybe good who knows. i think we are wandering instead of adv. riding. maybe :wink:we will coin a new motorcycling venue. wanderriders inc. just a thought. later alan

well the weekend is upon us again and a ride is being planned. leaning towards a ride to the old camp livingston area just north and west of alexandria. a little dirt,35miles, or so is layed out in this area. it is of interest as it has some areas to explore and ride light dirt trails if the quads have not ripped it tooooo much. me and mud have nothing in common. like hard dirt, gravel and some sand. anyway it is worth a trip down there for a look see. we can always find alternate riding in this area. hopefully we can pick up some riders this week. thank you for your time alan:bow

Well I can say we made it thru another adventure, ride or whatever two not so young wanderers may call it. Ridgerunner and myself went down to Camp Livingston area and cleaned out the quad trails. Mud,which I somewhat hate, seemed to be on the menue for this ride. Weather was amazing for Feburary and we had the trails to ourselves. Lost for hours and a tank full of fuel was the result of our cutting trails and not having any nav. equipment, again. Well the sun was out so all was not lost as we remembered going in on the east. Every try to go due west in the darn woods? Spent some time getting back to civilization and hwy. 165. Running dirt and gravel roads on the east side of 165 finally led us back home. Another good ride with a good friend. Thanks Ridgrunner later Alan:wave
