I'd love to Phil, but even thinking about how to navigate my way through the Pitcha Postin' Process frightens the bejesus out of me!
What's the link to the 'Dummies Guide'?

I'm out at Stanhope Gardens and as a matter of fact I think I look quite fetching in lycra:lol3. Still got the pumpkin mate, not that I've had time to ride it. Might be able to make it to Moonan on the 1st.

Ahhh, I was chatting with a few blokes last night and they mentioned that almost all the crossings through Barry Station to Elliston have been concreted:eek1

Has anyone been through that way recently?

Surely they mean back towards moonan not over to nundle cause I don't reckon concrete Causeway would last 5 minutes in those creeks with a Good storm and unless it's a coal road I don't think a council would be daft enough to waste it's money

But as you well know I've been wrong before

Yeah, that's what I thought too Lentil but they were up there yesterday and they rode in and out from the Nundle side.

Definitely need to have a look on the way to Moonan Christmas drinks ....... Unless you want to take a day off during the week to check it out:D:D

    Sure thing Farmer Roy!
How's harvest going, have you got much left to do?

Oh, and I might of jinxed myself last night with the "cough, cough" suggestion. About an hour later, one of the kids came down with Gastro:puke2

Still, I'd be keen for something later in the week

    So,
after hearing that all the creek crossings through Barry Station had been concreted, Farmer Roy and i decided to go and check out whether the rumours were true. Lentil was supposed to join us but i got a vague text about his life ending prematurely if he went for a ride on his wife's birthday.

We got going from the Gunnedah Caltex a bit late thanks to my tardiness and headed for Nundle via Quirindi and the old Wallabadah road. Good news for me and the 690 was that Nundle shop is still stocking fuel, so with a quick top up for the bikes and me, we headed for Barry Station.

    <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dale_kirby/8220105152/" title="Barry Station by Dale_Kirby, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8209/8220105152_9d1e982930.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Barry Station"></a>

The first couple of gullies past the homestead had me nervous as they were all concreted and when we stopped at the first gate, it was flasher than a rat with a gold tooth! Tar, concrete and new Gal everwhere! i was fearing the worst:eek1 Heading up the first decent hill wasn't making me feel much better as the track was smoothly graded and the contour banks were smooth and voluptuous, reminding me of a girl i once knew:wink: As we started to head down the other side, things started to look a bit brighter, rutted tracks, big ghoolies scattered around and some nice short sharp contour banks to keep you on your toes:evil

Then we got to the first decent crossing and woohoo! no concrete in sight, just lots of smooth, slippery rocks and flowing water!!

Some footage of Farmer Roy taking on one of the crossings
    <iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/VtAN3zNSjdw?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Hmmm, a bit of a splutter there but nothing major so we kept going. Same thing on the next couple of crossings, what was going on:huh we checked the plug lead but it looked ok so we moved to the sidestand sensor which was still connected.
    <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dale_kirby/8220116050/" title="running repairs by Dale_Kirby, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8485/8220116050_203cb53014.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="running repairs"></a>
still no luck, so we re-checked the plug lead and while it didn't look like much moisture, it must've been enough as after Roy gave it a quick dry, there were no more issues:clap

    Moonan Flat for lunch
    <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dale_kirby/8220114032/" title="Moonan Flat Pub by Dale_Kirby, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8337/8220114032_c6560151bf.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Moonan Flat Pub"></a>

After a quick lunch and some liquid refreshments, we headed back towards Nundle via the Crawney pass.
    <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dale_kirby/8219036989/" title="Crawney Station by Dale_Kirby, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8204/8219036989_8b79e275ab.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Crawney Station"></a>

Heading home was pretty good except for the sidewind that tried hard to blow us off the road between Quirindi and Breeza!

All in all, a great ride and i'm glad to report, the Barry Station track is as good as ever:clap

I'll be heading to Quirindi this Sunday for a week and am considering taking the TE630. My in laws own 1400 acres near Willow Tree that I can poke around on, but I wouldn't mind a day ride as well to explore the surrounds.

I'm not familiar with the area so any suggested routes would be appreciated. If anyone wanted to show a Sydneysider around that'd be even better!

    Thanks,
    Rus

Err I cant make sunday but You could do a looop round through crawney pass and come back through nundle.

Or go further east and do the barry station tract from nundle

or to the west you could do the merriwa road from quirndi (its easy but enjoyable) or you could join the merriwa road and and crawney rides together.

to the north you could through piallaway down denver lane onto oakey creek road and then onto babbiniboon rooad and then through somerton on the somerton bective road, cross the bridge and on the somerton main road go a few hundred metres untill you find perings road which joins keepit road and then onto rushes road turn right and head for keepit, on the keepit road keep following it round to the left and onto the orange grove road follow this all the way to the kelvin road , turn left into gunnedah (fuel up) and head towards coonabarrabran about 25 km on the left will be leyburn road (big signs for leyburn estate) follow this road for about 10 kms to a t intersection and turn right onto milroy road and then left onto goscombe road, then right onto wandoabh road follow this down all the way to the end and turn left and then cross the railway and turn right immediately onto moreduval road and the left about 9 kilomteres down the road to the signposted blackville and follow your nose back to quirindi.

Thats probably about four hours + of riding plus + sight seeing time

Thanks Lentil, a couple of interesting options there.

I'll be riding up tomorrow and be there until the following Sunday, so will do a bit more planning then. Time will be a little tight, as I'll need to do some spraying on the property, am going waterskiing on Keepit one day, visiting a memorial another at Manilla for a mate who was killed in April, probably going to the boxing day races at Quirindi, so will try & fit a ride in around those.

    Regards,
    Rus
