Update. See post #103. New ride! 11/28/15

How about a ride on a route we've done a number of times with riding groups.
Saturday 12/1 or Saturday 12/15 depending on weather.

Start in Santa Rosa, head north over the Geyers. Up to Hopland and east over
Old Toll Road to Lake County. Then do Cow Mountain from east to west and south on
    101 back to Santa Rosa.

We'll meet at Bad Ass Coffee at 8:30am and head out from there.

If it's wet, knobbies or aggressive dual sport tires would be good. Any bikes are welcome.

    Any questions just ask.

Let me know if anyone is interested.

Sounds like fun Dean! I might be able to make in on the DR650 if it takes place on the 1st. Thanks for initiating the ride!

Looks like this weekend is out.

Weather says lots of rain, possibly up to 12" by Monday in parts
    of the northbay.

We'll see how the 8th is looking as we get closer.

definitely interested but not sure if my bikes are appropriate for the entire ride, however they would probably work fine for all but Cow Mountain (I'm guessing)....have a Triumph Tiger 955i and a DR650 supermoto...any thoughts on which would work better for this ride??

Either bike will work on the main road at Cow, unless it's muddy.
    I'd take the DR then.

However, if the tiger has knobbies....

Hey Dean, is the 8th now an option - initially you mention the 1st and the 15th.

I would still be up for this weekend unless it is completely dumping (which it sounds like it may be). Bring on the mud! :D

    Dean,

Great to see a possible ride being planned !!! I can only make the 15th so if that becomes an option, count me in.

Thanks for the reply! this thread inspired me to ride part of the route today and my DR650SM worked great. FWIW Geysers RD had some washouts (including one with an unexpected stop sign :eek1) , short stretches of gravel and mud but was fine overall. Old Toll road had lots of washboard sections and I had two sort of close calls on blind curves with pickup trucks going the other way, glad I was not going too fast. BTW found a most excellent new microbrewery in Kelseyville along the way :photog

Sounds like fun. and it meets the most important of my criteria...a reason to ride. I'm in if the weather holds.

Still plan on doing this ride on the 15th. Again weather dependent.
We might have to change the route some. I wouldn't be surprised if
    Cow is still closed.

I'm thinking after Old Toll Rd we head south through Cobb, down to Middletown
and then over Western Mines Rd. (Ida Clayton) that ends up in Alexander Valley.

    We'll see.

Do you have an percentage estamite of paved/dirt? That would help in deciding what bike to bring.

    Hey Dean,

It's been awhile. Am too out of shape/practice to ride my EXC -- at least for now -- so I bought a Triumph Scrambler to bomb around on. If it's on, will definitely try to make it.

Depends which route we end up taking. Cow more dirt, Cobb less dirt.
But at least 75% pavement. Though the Geyers can be rough, lots of
broken pavement. Especially after the storms we've had.

But that makes it more fun.

The ride is still looking good. A little rain tomorrow and Friday, hopefully not to much.

Believe it or not Cow is open, I'm really surprised. We'll
see if it stays open by Saturday.

Anyway, if you're planning to go please say so. I want to get a head count.
