I like this idea! I just called TC, and they are open at 8AM. Meet in Grand Marais somewhere; my house or Java Moose?? Joe, you're the farthest, what time?

Ok, now I'm confused. We were planning TC, but then it was changed to an Ely ride? I'm down for either one (I've been wanting to cruise up to Ely for a while), just let me know what ya'll decide and when/where to meet.

Why don't we just say "screw it" and ride south till we see people wearing shorts, t shirts and flip flops.

That would be in my neighborhood. 76 degrees here today. Perfect riding conditions. Even our pool has opened. Oh, y'all probably do not want to hear that...

I'm off work for a couple days. Just in time for some nice weather. If anybody North of me is itching to explore, I'd get packed up for the day and point it up the Shore. What say you ?

Excellent, Ted ! Curious what time you can mount up ? I might even get to Ely earlier in the day if time allows. Otherwise I'll just tool around on my way North. Feel free to pick a time and place.

Just got a report on some of the trail/rd near Isabella. Trappers rd ,Wander rd. East Tomahawk all snow covered. Not sure what the Four mile grade status is, thought about trying that over towards Sawbill outfitters from the Trestle bar. Talked with some loggers and thought it might be doable??

Is Echo trail plowed in the winter?

Could do the Ely thing and try the Echo trail?

    thoughts?

I'd be game for headin' Ely way. Echo gets plowed for sure. Paved until a bit past the North Arm Rd. if memory serves. Used to live up the Echo on Big Lake, so you'd think memory would serve a bit better :lol3 Are you only free in the afternoon tomorrow? I'm wiped out from the workday and I'm just about to crash. Post up your potential start time. I could meet you in BB, SB, TH, where ever we want to start from. And if you just have the latter part of the day, we could meet in Ely. I've got all effin' day. PM sent.

    Hi Ted,
We passed on HW61 as I was coming home from a ride with MikeS and Bidda. We did a Finland to Ely (via HW1) to Babbit (via CO 21) to Isabella (via Tomahawk) to Trussle Inn (wanless rd). Then MikeS and I tried to take the 4 Mile rd to the Sawbill Trail, but encountered a few feet of snow about 3 miles in. So Mike headed north on CO 7 and I followed the Cramer turn off to HW61. Below are some pictures.

We had 1 to 2 feet of snow on some of the roads that weren't plowed and had to go around. The snow we are riding in is on Four Mile Grade, we had to turn around at Toohey Lake.

Yep, those are reverse lights on the 4x4 Tacoma. Even he couldn't make it through the 1-2 feet of snow.

Wanless Rd was in great shape.

FR358 near the Trussle was still snowed in.

Forest road 166 off of the Cramer was still MIA.

Oh ya, and MikeS found a whole shelf of Farkles at a coffee shop in Ely!

The Wanless Road towards Sawbill, which I know as the Parent Lake Road from about Hog Creek east, is open but there are culverts that are washed out. You can get through with a moto, and probably a pickup. The snow gets deeper as you get in to Cook Cty, and the 4 Mile Lake Grade is deeper at the CCC end on the Sawbill.

Greetings, Ted. I totally understand the graveyard thing and the need for some sleep. 1130 at the Rustic is fine with me. I'd rather skip the meal there and maybe try something in Ely if that's OK with you. Chocolate Moose should be open, or the Boathouse. Phone me with changes if needed, but I'll plan on 1130 at the Rustic.
