With that said, we ended up with 2 riders. AZ Tom started 79 miles and an hour earlier from Prescott while I met him in Williams since I was camping just up the road at Kaibab Lake. Temps were great with the lows around 50 and the highs somewhere in the low 70's.

The intended route, I thought would be about 220 miles for me. It ended up being more like 330. We left at 7:30 and I arrived back in Williams about 12 hours later.

    The route...

Tom wondering if we should go right, stay left... nah, go back to the last major junction.

Another gate stop... this one takes us under the rail line of the Grand Canyon RR.

Despite riding right along the rim of the canyon for miles and miles, Tom never slowed down for me to get a picture! Oh well, it's not like you haven't seen a picture of the Grand Canyon before anyways!

    Yours truly...

Gray Mountain Truck Trail was spectacular. It had a mix of fast two rut stuff to slow and rocky better take it easy stuff. The views were incredible coming down the south side as you felt like you could see forever!

A particularly steep, rocky, tricky switchback...

This is where Tom's bike threw in the towel and said enough is enough.

He and I finally coaxed it back into action with the promise of fresh fuel at the next stop.

Unfortunately, my GPS mount decided to vibrate itself loose so Tom decided to adjust his chain one click tighter since we were stopped. By now, the bike had a real attitude and wasn't going to let us do this easily!

Tom working on his bike again. This time, the mirror just wouldn't tighten down.

Later, he got creative with some monster zip ties.

The next leg of the journey was across the res and Tom had mentioned that this was his favorite part. Holy Cow that boy can ride! He hit that sandy stuff and even though I was trying to maintain 60mph, he just up and walked away from me! I had no time to take any pictures as I devoted all my attention to just keepin' up. Unfortunately, we were blasting along and such a rate that we somehow missed the turnoff to Grand Falls by 10 miles. Since it was so late in the day, we rode on towards Winona where Tom peeled off to slab it back home to Prescott and I continued west to Williams over Schultz Pass and on through the forest. The sun was well on its way down as I approached the finish line.

Day 2 brought on a day of solo exploration. I took the opportunity to pre scout a section for a ride I plan to lead in the spring. Along the way, I explored an abandoned train tunnel as well.

    The route...

I started down the gas line road and then hooked south to ride up the old Johnson Canyon RR tunnel.

I would have ridden through it but there was a lot of deep sticky mud towards the entrance that I did not feel like repainting my bike with.

So I just parked at the entrance...

...and walked through to the other end.

Great shots Tom. I added a couple Videos from a previous ride to my comments above. Kinda shows a little of what we traversed. Will be curious to see some of the stuff you found on Thurs.

As I was going through Williams, Thursday morning, I realized I'd left my camera behind at the campground. No big deal as I could still use the one on my GPS. I did not realize however, that there was a big old bug on the lens of the GPS until about halfway through the day. Hence, no photos from the first half of Thursday.

Great pics! Those BNSF engines are nice to ride in... I wish I had the opportunity more often.

How'd you manage to get a cab ride? Was it a mainline ride or just a cruise around the yard? Major jealousy here!

Howdy Klod and Tom - Looks like a nice ride. I see you still like your rocks.

I was through there last month. I rode the Smokey Mountain Road that runs through the wilderness from Big Water (north of Glen Canyon Dam) to Escalante. Maybe 110 miles I think. Lots of washouts and weather damage, but I got through in about 5 hours or so. I continues to Salt Lake where I met up with a friend to ride the Pony Xpres trail to Nevada. Fun Fun

They got rocks in Nevada too. :eek1
