Day 1 I've been trolling on this site for quite a while and soon enough, got the fever for some motobike adventures. I've read many adventures with envy on advrider.com and kept thinking "when is it going to be my chance?" Well, I finally started to make plans.. I started asking questions here on the hows and whats and got some great info! I was looking through an issue of Roadrunner magazine an they had a report on a Northern California route that looked fun and fairly easy to do. I thought a trip close to home would be a great way to start. I've never been to some of these parts in Northern California, so I thought this was a win-win situation. There's only so much I can screw up. I'd been meaning to take this trip for months.. But with work and other situations popping up, just coudn't get away! So finally, last Saturday looked like a go! No obligations holding me back. Two potential snags. I was coming off the flu and I had an event the night before which I had to do a speech. So I wouldn't have much time if any to pack. Oh well, I'll just get up early the next day... I had a wicked headache the night where I did my speech and though "I'll leave when I leave".. Instead of leaving between 7am - 9am, I left at 11:45am! The good thing is that it only took me about 2.5 hours to pack and load the bike. May I introduce you to Amanda. Yes, I name my bikes. I just thought it was fitting. Her captain. I promised a buddy that I would ride up to his place and help him fix his computer. I called him and told him that I would be up at his place at 2pm. Surely I can do 155 miles in two hours. Right? Traffic was unusually light headin' down Highway 101 and Interstate 80. Weather was a little chilly.. But hey, with the light traffic, I'll deal with the chilliness. My Frank Thomas Aqua 2.0 jacket is doing a great job and it's one of the best $200 I've spent. 2 hours later, I still have about 40 miles to go. What??? I was moving at a pretty good clip and should be pulling up to my friend's place by now. I spotted this life-saver and decided to call my buddy while I'm at it. $3 for two tacitos and a gatorade? I'm all over that! Another hour... I finally get to my buddy's place. It was quite curvy going up Highway 16 to Jackson and took FOREVER! Sheesh. Oh well... I was feeling lousy last night so give me a break... But a sick day on the road is better than a healthy day in the office. No? I meet my buddy and I get to work... After an hour, which is what I planned... It looks like it's going to take longer to finish this project than I thought. I wanted to get to West shore at Lake Tahoe to camp out. By 6pm, it looks like it's not going to happen. My buddy offers the spare bedroom.. I was a little upset I don't get to rough it... I really wanted to camp.. But then I thought "it's the journey, not the destination". I really wanted to hang out with my buddy and we were having a good time even though I was doing some computer work.. We take in Subway Sandwich and a movie and call it a night. Total miles completed: 155.
