I'd aim for getting on 95 at 9:30 at the very earliest, if possible (the later the better). Your luck will likely be better in the HOV lane.

66 is the worst. When I find myself sitting in traffic in it (even on a Sunday morning), my hatred of the Metro dissipates - just a little.

I have to admit that the traffic is one of the things I absolutely don't miss out here . . . :D

Although I do steer clear of the Seattle metro area for the most part. Weren't too many traffic jams on the way to Mt Walker (post above). That will probably change on summer weekends.

Whacked a deer on a back road near my house one morning at 0330. Fortunately I was on the hacked KLR and only tweaked my ankle when for some reason I thought I needed to dab my foot. Hit the doe square in the hind quarter after missing the first one that darted out. Deer scampered away. I was only doing about 25-30 as I just left my house and was still warming up.

Left Alexandria this morning a few minutes after 7. Knowing now that the Express Lanes are free for bikes, I decided to take 495/66 to points west, rather than the more scenic Mount Vernon/Rt 1/Prince William Parkway method. Worked out quite well, bypassing several spots of stopped cars on the regular lanes.

Then I hit 66. Dunno what it is about that road, but whatever time of day I take it, in whichever direction, it's stop and go. Often worse in the HOV lane than the regular one. Always reconfirming my belief that 66 is the real "Devil's Highway"

Awesome. I just found out that my 12miles/22 minutes commute to Quantico is turning into 44 miles/ ?? minutes to the Navy Yard this summer. I have half a mind to buy a pontoon boat and cross the Potomac instead of battling 95...
