Awesome ride. We did this yesterday , and it was one of the best rides i have ever had. Nice dirt roads, climbs , a little mud by the river and nice twisties on the pavement . Thanks . If you have any more please share. :freaky

I agree... did it a few weeks ago as well. Great Ride! :thumb

That's what we need more of!! :deal

Here's a link to the latest loop I put together:

    https://mapsengine.google.com/map/edit?mid=zE0J70iq4qtM.kg75r49YVBMk

I've never shared anything yet with the Maps Engine Pro, so let me know what you see when you open it. It should be all my marked locations, and then a few sets of directions that make a loop starting at People's Forest, and is around 2.5 hours.

Haven't ridden any of it yet, minus half a dozen roads, so if you make it out there before me, let me know how it is and if it needs any tweaks...

I'm going to post up a route sheet shortly...

So, I'm making some progress on route planning on the desktop and Navigation on Android.

What I did was create the directions list in Google My Maps in 4 parts because Google limits the number of stops, and then exported it to KML via folder button top left, then opened it in Google Earth, then exported it to GPX, then opened it in Garmin Basecamp, then dragged each direction list into the previous one to merge the lists, then repeat until you have the whole track complete, rename. Then select that track, then export selection to GPX. Email it to yourself or save to Drive, then save to phone. With OSMand+ installed, move to sdcard0\osmand\mytracks folder. Open OSMand+ in Map view. In settings, turn on in Global and Car modes, Logging Services, Map Layers and turn signals. Click Map Layers icon now in the top right bar and select GPX track. Find the GPX track in the list and load it. Then hit the Menu button in the bottom left and select Directions. Click Yes to "Do you want to use displayed track for Nav." Then, you can click the Car icon in the bottom right and select "Pass along entire track." Which allows you to Navigate a loop, otherwise you start your bike, then turn it off since you have arrived.

Give it a try with your own, or the link I just posted and let me know if you have a better way, or if it works for you. I think it produced the best track with just the right amount of via points. I opened mine on my Moto X (the phone :lol3)

I don't frequent ADV often enough I guess. Just saw this and realize you're covering my backyard. I'm up in the NW corner in East Canaan. Commute to BDL daily on my KLR and ride the area here, across into eastern NY and also southern Mass below Otis with my buddy from work on his DRZ looking for as much dirt as possible.

Love riding the dirt roads/trails and would like to join up with you's sometime. I'm not very GPS savy but I do enjoy following the smallest squiggley lines on the screen. :thumb

Cool guys. Soon we'll have to do a group ride, it's just been a busy summer for me. Building a shed to put the bikes and have a workshop is my current project. There's so much good stuff to explore and so little time...

Cool. We've been chipping off pieces of the new one. My favorite is reverse starting in Litchfield.

While riding season has wound down for most riding, tonight is my annual "ride to work night". Ride into work in 2014...home in 2015.

Needless to say the heated grips and heated jacket liner will be on high!

And with any luck the ole KLR will cross over the 116,000 mile mark in the morning.

I saw this in an on-line article:

"Connecticut has 576 miles of dirt roads, or “unimproved town roads,” as the State Department of Transportation calls them. My town, Sharon, in the state’s northwest corner, has the most, with 27.71 miles, followed closely by New Milford, with 26.8, then Woodstock, a country town along the Massachusetts border to the east, with 24.19, according to the Transportation Department."

If you could string together a bunch in just those three towns you'd have three good loops to ride.

That article is what started this whole thing!

I located their maps, which aren't nice. They are .pdfs. So, printed them and highlighted all the dirt roads, then marked them in google maps with pins. Then create routes via the pins...

Might be. There's the two big loops and the Google custom map with the way points.

Excellent! I was wondering whether someone would be out and about in the area on such a fine day. Unfortunately I couldn't as I was at work. But I did KLR commute from East Canaan to Bradley airport and back.
