Port Angeles sunset from Sunday.

Any recomendations on a camera upgrade? I have been doing the point and shoots forever with mixed results often with pics aren't share worthy. I am in the the market for a preowned unit (dslr?) so what do I need for the gear bag? Thanks for the suggestions and all of the great pictures all of you share!
You can get great shots with a good point and shoot. The canon G series is really good. How much $$ do you want to spend? If you want a DSLR, go with the bottom of the line Canon or Nikon eand spend more on the lens than the camera. Fredmiranda.com

And I will add this: The composition layout and lighting is what makes a good photo, not the camera.
