Wow, thread dredge alert! Great thread, enjoyed it immensely.

    Hi Pers!

Didn't do this one, did the first two, glad you had a great time. Sold the Transalp - biggest mistake I ever made. Currently plotting on buying another!

I wrote some stuff on the first two you can find here:

    Old memories!!
I just found this forum and many pictures.
I'm the one to the left (the big one and was younger^^).
I was the medic riding a transalp (the other were in 4x4).
I used a transalp lent by Honda. Mine was quiet at home. I sold it some years ago, now have an old FJ1200 Yamaha but I don't use it anymore
I don't know if I have pictures of the raid but I still have the 3 roadbooks and the T shirts.
    Thanks for the pictures

    Hello Olivier,
I was browsing the internet and found the pics of the Rally. Some of them are even taken by myself. I was the 5th in our small group (the guy with the yellow scarf) which was every day the last group because we liked to take our time everywhere.
I still have nice memories about this great event. Last weekend I discussed the trip with a friend of mine we are considering to do the route again next year. I still have a lot pictures, and I will post them later. I also saw Pers' reply from a few years ago.
After the Transalp, I bought a Africa Twin 750, stopped riding for a long time but now own a BMW 1200 GSA for a for a year now.
I think it is time for a reunion now 27 years later :-).

    Cheers,

    Joost from Holland

Hi Per, I am the last guy at the picture, I also have good memories about this three weeks in June '89. I hope you both are well.
I wrote Olivier that it is time for a Reunion after 27 year, lets choose a nice part of the route. The Gorges du Tarn would be a good spot!
    Hope to hear,

    Cheers

Amazing pics, I love those bikes from the 80s, and even the promo material looks awesome. Maybe because i was a kid in the 80s dreaming about motorcycles they are more special to me. I now ride a BMW but here in Barcelona you still see lots of Transalps and Africa Twins from the 80s and early 90s.... maybe one day I get one just cause they are so awesome.

After 27 years without seeing each other, Joost and I met again to ride together the first days of the Transalp 1989 Rallye.
We had an appointment in Molsheim campsite which is halfway from south of France where I live and Holland where Joost lives.

Strangely we arrived at 1 minute interval and we had no problem recognizing each other after all those years.

Here are some comparison pictures between 1989 and 2016 :

    Alsatian villages.
The 2016 pictures are in Obernai but we could not remember in which other village were the 1989 pictures taken.

    Haut-Konigsbourg Castle.
It was may 8th, a long weekend in France and there was a big traffic jam to get there.

Lac Blanc (White Lake) in the Vosges mountains.

It took us 2 days to ride from Strasbourg to Beaune, which means we are twice slower when being twice older (wiser ?) :D

Joost had to go back home to be able to be at work on monday morning.
I decided to ride one day more up to Chavaniac-Lafayette in the Massif Central mountains.

This was a fun revival and we need now to carry on with the next rallye steps !

Thanks Olirider; the buildings, your bikes may have all have changed, but at least you guys still met again and took a ride back in time.

Btw, I am in southern France too Olirider if you ever want to meet up.

    Cheers
