I'll put my spare KLR battery on the charger in the morning.
just in case.........
What a great day. Excellent weather, good riding companions, and some absolutely tasty chow. And I got to dispense free medical advice to the wait staff. Sorry about almost beaning one guy with a 3 gallon rotopax that departed from the hack. At least I got that damn thing back.
Yep, I second "great ride"! Nice mix of gravel, hills, and sights. Thanks to all who made it!
Great food (I can say "back rubbin good"!) got at: Betty's Restaurant; 112 E German St, Shepherdstown, WV
There was interest in MIchaux State Forest discussed at lunch...once it warms up - perhaps a trip with an overnight camp can be set up.
"Betty's Restaurant" sign, from satellite imagery:
Overheard from tourist, and potential restaurant patron, "Oh, no! Don't go THERE! Just LOOK!"
Just kidding; didn't happen!
Fine meal, fortifying riders amidst their 100-mile ride through hill and dale along the Potomac and the C & O Canal tow path, touching three states:
Oh, yes: Do NOT, under any circumstances, maneuver a coffee mug in any direction or dimension, in an effort to assist the waitress in serving. She prefers a stationary target!
Thanks, Porcupine224, for setting up an outstanding ride in gorgeous scenery on the most beautiful day so far this year!
Agreed. An awesome day to ride! Thanks for leading the route porcupine. I'm definitely in for a trip to Michaux State Forest
Anyone got any plans for riding on the 17th?? I finally have a free Sunday! The above ride sure looked fun. I have a newly rebuilt shock with heavier spring on the KLR, so I would like to test it out.
Hmmm. A St Patrick's day ride. How about a RTCB? (Ride To Corned Beef).
I'm in if it involves food.
I can paint my top case green for the day
I think John Deere green would be appropriate. I may actually have a can of that in my garage somewhere, just collecting dust.
Name brand paint is way too high falootin for a KLR!
It was given to me by a neighbor that moved, so I think it meets the KLR financial standards (IT WAS FREE)! I don't even know if the spray can works.
got ahold of Lee Ranger District today. Expected opening is March 25th. they don't put the dates on the website, so you have to call.
anyone have any suggestions for irish food at the end of a gravel road?
I may have to be two- up if the ride takes place
I'm watching the weather for Sunday...but rain would ruin my green hair dye.
I'm off tomorrow (Friday). Anybody doing anything interesting?
I noticed that. Looks like rain for the entire weekend and then some
Replacing the stock rear shock/spring on my Strom with a nice Elka 3-way tomorrow! Hopefully that will keep the rear end planted on bumpy dirt/gravel roads when I'm dodging flying gas cans. :)
On the one hand, assisting VA.C. with his errant KLR parts and gas can on our ride was a great and noble thing...but in the big picture...all your really did was deprive the next cheap KLR rider to pass that way of a chance to get some "road farkles"
