    Hello!

I am Nuggets, and I can make forks not leak. I am holding a suspension tech day on Saturday December 14 in Newport News.

We'll get this started at 0900. There will be bacon and lunch (Grilled dead animal). Bring a side if you like.

Post up what you want to do to your suspension.

    List of suggested jobs:

    1. Change fluid and/or seals in upside down or conventional forks.
    2. Seals/fluid change in shocks <-- depends on your shocks (note nitrogen charging not available).
    3. Change springs
    4. Set sag
    5. Change settings
    6. Install emulators

I only have a single bay garage, so I'll have to keep it rather small. Post up want you want to do for dibs. I already talked this up a bit in the Hampton roads chatter thread, so msgvb, poondangle, PatrickInVA, Beaniman, hooliken, stoked steve, and k5mitch are guaranteed spots.

    Here is my workspace:

Post what you want to do. I'll then work with you to make sure you have all the parts you need when you show up.

I'll also need a volunteer grill master.

    IN:
    1. Hooliken: Springs, Oil, Seals on Showa upside down forks. GRILLMASTER :)
    2. Poondangle: Sag.
    3. PatrickInVA: Fork oil and Sag.

I'll just come and watch and hang out on this one, maybe man the camera, so if anyone else needs to do some suspension work, I won't be occupying a time slot for that.

I'll plan on attending, but my bike doesn't need any actual work so I won't need any shop space.

I just want to meet some folks and check out some bikes!

    I'm in! :evil

I would like to set the sag and change the fork oil on my WR250R.

I'll pony up some homemade cookies for dessert.

For anyone coming out, make sure you get your parts ordered so they get here in time.

Here are my parts I am working on:

    Cap off
    [IMG]

I found this issue with my shock :doh. New seals won't fix this.

The nick means I need to replace the rod. That's a $250 part. NOPE!

I ordered a $60 CRF250R shock off of Ebay to get the part I need, and I'll swap the valves from this shock into it when it gets here, and build a new shock from all the best bits.

Here is what a shock looks like in pieces. They are not hard to disassemble.

Since I have to wait for parts for the shock, I started on the forks.

I have finished replacing all the bushings, seals, and O-rings in one fork leg, and I cleaned the nasty sludge out of it. Now I just have to put it together.

Here is the nasty stuff I drained out of the shock and one fork leg. Compare that to the new fork oil in the bottles in the top pic.

Sweet Jebus Dude! I will take a guess that that oil has been in those for a long, long, long, time.

    NICE!!!

Nuggets, does that rear shock require an air charge? Or is it all mechanical and oil?

I don't need anything done on the vstrom, but like stokedsteve, would like to stop by and meet the gang and talk bikes. That's assuming I can escape before the honey-do list gets too long Saturday morning.

Since 2007 I imagine. The shock didn't have too much oil left in it.

The shock is supposed to take a nitrogen charge (the black thing in the baggie is the pressure bladder). I have a high pressure mountain bike shock pump, and I'll just use that to charge the bladder. It will work well enough for what I need to do.

Hey there Nuggets. I may be interested in swinging by. I've recently done a major suspension swap on my Versys (went with a set of DRZ forks up front, and a different shock in the rear), but I must admit that I'm a complete noob when it comes to "dialing in" a suspension. If the weather allows it, I'd love to swing by and have you show me the ins and outs of set the sag, rebound, dampning, etc...

    Thank!

PS. What's your address or coordinates for this event?

    Hey!

That would be awesome. I have been lurking over in your Versys build thread, so it would be awesome if you brought it by.

I'll send directions in a PM later this week.

Weather forecast is still not looking great for tomorrow. I'll have to make a judgement call in the morning as to whether or not to take my chances on the road. If I lived less than an hour from you, it probably wouldn't matter, but 2 & a half hours is a long time to be cold, wet, and miserable. Not to mention the possibility of slick road conditions.

I'll post up in the AM with what I decide to do.
