    Oh that last post didn't copy, sorry. There was some talk a month or so about some custom guards and possible panniers. I need to get off my nook and post properly!

    After 25 years, 58000 miles..
    The '89 took a real lick yesterday...

    Was going to shop in a store, and entered the parking lot and found a parking space i fancied....

    while gazing at this spot, i saw a KingCAB F150 4x4 coming AT ME...
    10-15mph

    I stopped for a good ten seconds, so the driver would have time to correct and give me room...

    6... I see the female driver isn't looking over the hood, she isnt even looking out the windshield.....
    5..she's going to cut it CLOSE

    4...she turns into me, even closer....It's inevitable...She IS going to squash me, and the NX

    3... I start to drop the bike, and eject !Eject! EJECT!!

    2...She looks out the windshield, Finally sees me...

    1... stabs the brakes....I lean the bike, and turn the front wheel...


    (pause for dramatic effect!)


    0...

    BAM!!!

    She hits the fork tube, brake rotor, front fender as she rolls to a stop...snapping the bars nearly from my hands..


    I'm standing there, bike leaned,
    with a front truck tire pinning my front bike tire underneath..

    She backs up two feet, mouths 'Im Sorry' through the glass at me, AND TAKES OFF!!

    I got the TAG, but is turns out the TAG is expired, to a different vehicle... :baldy



    The NX is knackers..

    the front forks are twisted, the brake rotor is warped, brakes are dragging..
    there is a BAD vibration in the front end(through the bars),
    and the wheel is bouncing..and juddering...




    Hit and Run, Fictitious Tag, Leaving the scene..Totalling out my NX..




    Does anyone have a complete good front end that i can get for the cheap?


    This is my ONLY transportation, and of course, i have to pay for someone else's inattention/recklessness..

    forks, triple clamps, rotor, wheel..
    the whole shebang?


    Sorry, i'm not a happy camper now...
    I've been riding in 20f-30f degrees for 7 months, the first day of spring, and a hitandrun lady destroys the NX..

    anyone got a front end, PLEASE PM me...

    The pulse generator is inside the clutch side cover...

    It has a 'cold temp'(engine cold) spec, and a 'warm' spec...

    It is measured in ohms...290Ω-360Ω at 68F°(20C°)

    So, go with a median value 225 as a starting point for your measurement...


    Remember, the PG(pulse generator) is inside the clutch cover..

    I'm not sure a front end is gonna fix it...

    I just went for a test ride, 5-6 miles..
    it's kinda ...'off'...
    the triples are left at the top, the wheel is to the right at the axle..

    bent rotor...
    headlight assembly (frame) must be bent...
    brakes dragging..
    wheel bouncing, and it's pulling a little..

    I think maybe the steering neck is bent, :becca and after so many km's,
    only the engine is worth saving..
    and the rear wheel..


    of course, i did just put chain/sprocket, rear wheel bearings, front bearings, front and rear tubes and front rear tires...
    KN filter, fork boots, levers...


    i sat by the phone ALL day :2cry
    waiting on the PD to call me with 'we found her'..
    never got a call..

    I tried to 'harden da 'eff' up, and stomach a test ride,
    and now..:waysad

    There is tire rubber stuck to my front brake rotor...i got a pic..
    I can rebuild anything on a bike but i can't fix 'bent' frame..

    i feel like :puke1

    Is there a black list or something for bad vendors? This guy here is offering cylinders and cams for our NX250 / AX1

    But these parts will never fit an MD21 engine; the cylinder is missing the structure for attaching the oil line :dog:dog:dog

    The sprockets of the X-lite cams have a larger diameter – also no way to make them work :dog:dog:dog

    A buddy ordered CBR250 cams (which are the same as the CRF250L cams) and experienced the same.


    Comparison with pics from the web suggests that all these parts are intended for shineray engines, not for Honda engines.


    When I confronted the vendor with this, he first wrote that he has to ask the factory, and then was never heard of again.



    So the only thing left to do is to warn everybody to never buy anything from this guy – I suppose I was not the first that was cheated but hopefully the last :chace

In situations like this I would wait a few days (or weeks) to let things calm down – and then think it over. It’s not necessarily a bend frame, after a similar crash (with the NX650 though) the frame was ok, the energy of the crash was apparently absorbed by the front wheel and fork.


    Even if the frame was bend, as long as the engine is ok, it would be still your NX - and you would be still in the 100.000 miles race :wink:.
    Only in case – used frames are not that expensive

    but for starters I would change the triple clams, since they are the weakest point of the front end

    Bought a reasonable condition 89. with the exception of a weak battery, worked fine. (replaced battery)
    washed it, now the start button does not work. Short the soleniod, and the starter turns (so it's not the starter)
    No voltage seen at the magnetic switch when disconnected and and the starter switch pushed Ignition on (so no signal to the solenoid).
    Then I opened up the handlebar switchgear and shorted the brass buttons, but still no voltage at the switch.

    Will the starter turn if the Run switch is off? Most hondas do. If it's not the switchgear, I guess I'm chasing a short somewhere?

    Damn, valvecrusher, that sucks big time! Hope you find a solution soon.

    Anybody happen to know the diameter of the fork springs? I'm thinking of trying a pair from my airhead since the outer diameters of the stanions are the same and the lengths seem to match as well.

    O, and I found a dipstick in the partsbin, didn't know I had one lying around.

    It was a the switch pod. Had to use one I had around, which had different connectors, so had to cut and connect in the original 8 pin connector.

    Pain in the ass.

    Just got my 1st gen SV650 shock (yellow).
    Now I have a few questions about the modification:

    I read in this thread that a new hole has to be drilled to fit the shock in the nx250. As I am 6 ft tall, it would be nice to get the back a little higher.

    Will the shock fit in if I drill the hole just above the original one?
    Which adjustment would you recommend for a 190 lb rider (mostly street use)?

    I used the yellow shock unmodified on the 250. It had to be set on the lowest preload setting then compressed with a small rachet strap for installation. The front rim was swapped for a 21" to level the bike. Works great with a 32" inseam.

    To retain the stock ride height of the bike, drill the SV shock lower clevis at the same distance as the OEM shock as measured between the upper and lower holes. Then cut and radius the clevis for apperance.

    Preload is set at 5th setting for a 200 lb rider and it still bottoms out occasionally.

    Not drilling the hole may raise the rear end 4 to 5 inches if the the front end is not raised proportionally. :eek1

    This leads to a dramatic steepening of the front fork angle and can cause serious suspension issues.
    • Front end tuck
    • Tank Slapper / Death Wobble

    It is in your best interest to measure and retain the stock fork angle whether raising or lowering any motorcycle. :deal

    There is great info on motorcycle suspension tuning on the web that can be applied for your safety and enjoyment of this fine machine.

    There's a weak spot in the whole frame structure of that bike.
    It's the part of the frame on the right side, near the stock air filter box.
    The OEM exhaust supports almost half of the weight of the rider and it's part of secondary chassis.
    There's a crucial supporting steel tube missing on that side, so it is advisable not to use a stiff shock especially when the rider is on the heavy side.
    Personally I would never use this as a dirt bike.
    Let's face it, Honda produced that motorceecle as part of a student program in Tokyo and other urban locations in Japan almost 20 years ago.
    This bike was originally designed to be leased to students with a low family income and be used as a cheap and fast transportation vehicle, not an off road trail blazer.
    But, I'll have to agree it's fun to deal with.
    That's my opinion at least, that don't mean it's the right one of course!

    Tonight I swaped my white sv650 shock for a yellow one hoping for some sturdier feeling. Had a hell of a time getting it to fit; the yellow shock is just a bit longer than the white one and aligning the holes/bolts was a bitch. I did not have anything at hand to compress the shock so I ended up disconnecting the bottom prolink bolt in order to force all components to line up.
    Next to that I looked into the fork springs; the nx ones have a bigger diameter than the airhead (/6, /7 and R65) ones I had lying around, not a simple swap. The previous owner did already add about a inch and a halve worth of spacers on top of the springs but still it's weak. Would it help to replace the short spring (seems to be weaker than the long one) by some long spacer?
