As the above states, I am a colossal idiot.

In a rush to get a couple of bags off my bike last night, I left my helmet on the ground next to it.

    And forgot about it.

with my heated gloves inside it.

    And the intercom on it.

    FUCK.

    Any ideas, gents? :cry

Sorry to hear about your gear. I was going to suggest you look on CL but I see you've already placed an ad.

    Good luck!!!

BTW, what size helmet and gloves are you? Just in case an ad shows up....

Put up a few paper ads on streetlights. I doubt someone took it to keep. Or maybe it's already sold on CL

I did the same recently except I put my helmet on a gate by the barbershop next to my house. About an hour later I went to use my phone and realized that the Scala Rider headset was still on and connected. When I went to shut it off I realized that I had left it outside. I ran out of the building and luckily for me it was still there. That really sucks. I hope that a neighbor grabbed it for you and that you will get it back soon.

I wear cheap helmets, something no one would want. I had a helmet for years that had chips and scratches all over it including the shield, which was always up anyway. It was at the point where I didn't even want to wear it anymore, inside was covered in playa dust.

Anyway, for years I would just leave it on the bike, usually hanging off the handlebars. A few weeks back someone took it. Probably just cause it was there, certainly not for themselves or to even sell it.

That really pissed me off, happened right in front of my house.

It wasn't an expensive helmet, and I have the GF's for a backup. Gmax GM68s, medium, Silver.

Gloves were Olympia, wired from Gerbing, but I'd bought them in the fleamarket here. I have extras.

I can still ride without these, but damn... now I need to buy another helmet and intercom, and I lost the modified speakers I'd worked on too.

I think he can blame the thief.

On another note, is it legal to ride a motorcycle in a terracotta bus lane in NYC, or one of those lanes that says "buses only 7am-7pm" type deal? I do a lot but will more brazenly if it's legal.

Not as far as I know. Actually I got a ticket for riding in one. Maybe isn't be able to get away with it being in the edge of the right most lane before it splitting but I would just split in another lane

"According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, motorcycle thefts in nineteen Texas cities decreased 44% in the two years after Texas legislature enacted a mandatory helmet law."

This is because it makes stealing a bike a pain in the ass if you have no helmet. Also I know plenty of people that would like to try riding but have no helmet. Stealing any helmet solves this for them- it doesn't need to be pretty.

Oh and.. a few weeks ago someone puked all over my helmet and it was locked to my bike. :puke1 [IMG] That ride home sucked. I refuse to leave my helmet even locked to the bike now.

nyc is not mayberry...lock your doors, take your crap indoors with you whenever possible, get your belongings out of sight or expect to have it messed with...or stolen.

The Halal cart on 53rd and 6. Very classy! :rofl

I had dinner with my family for Mom's birthday at McCormick and Schmick (52nd and 6th) a couple of years ago. Nice place if you like seafood. Otherwise, there are a lot more options if you walk over to 9th.

Nothing good and cheap near the Rock, but these are good and close:

    Le Bernardin
    The Modern
    Brasserie Ruhlmann

There's also some good chocolate shops in Rockefeller Center Plaza
Jacques Torres Chocolate (Downstairs in the concourse)
    and
    La Maison du Chocolat
