    Dream Racer: 2010 Dakar Documentary

    [IMG]Dream Racer
Climbing mountains, sailing the world, starting a business: many people have dreams. But most die a death at the hands of apathy, the human mind's uncanny ability to find excuses not to act, inertia, the barriers that life puts in one's way - job, mortgage, family, and other responsibilities.
This is the story of a man who refuses to let his dream die. He wants to race his motorbike in the 2010 Dakar Rally and will do everything humanly possible to make this happen.
Christophe Barriere-Varju isn't a highly paid professional athlete, he's a regular guy with a day job, and every penny he earns goes toward racing.
It costs $120,000 just to take part and Christophe is short on cash. He spent his entire savings on last year's race, a race he had to abandon on day 8 after breaking his wrist. He got off lightly. In 2006 he dislocated his shoulder, popped it back in and rode on, only to fall and break 3 ribs 180 kilometers later. The same year, at the Sertoes Rally in Brazil, he spent four days vomiting into his helmet fighting food poisoning and practically swallowed his own tongue.
But Christophe will not be put off. Even when all signs point to the contrary, Christophe will continue to believe. Delusion? Pure madness? Admirable positivity? His is an exceptional brand of optimism.
But will it be enough? Will Christophe even make it to Buenos Aires and the start of the 2010 Dakar? If he does, will he have what it takes to finish?
This is the story that Dream Racer will tell.
Stay tuned at www.teamrallyaustralia.com for the premier release of the Dream Racer documentary Trailer video the week of the 12th of October.

ASO company, that organizes the Dakar, organized a seminary of security for the newcomer pilots of Dakar 2011. There was more than a hundred participants and a luxury teacher: Ciryl Despres.
    By Diego Durruty ddurruty@ corsaonline.com.ar http://www.twitter.com/diegodurruty

“This is not one more a race… It is the race. Welcomes to hell”, were the words of the French Etienne Lavigne, director of the Dakar, to inaugurate the security seminary that was dictated last Saturday in Buenos Aires for the newcomer pilots of the legendary race. With that phrase Lavigne achieved that the assistants to the seminary took it very seriously since, as it knows, the Dakar is the hardest race of the world and with a file that includes many tragedies. The people of ASO, the company that organizes the Dakar, took this initiative because the statistics of the last edition showed that the majority of the pilots who left they were of this part of the world. Through this seminary the new runners became familiar with the life in the camping and had a notion of the reading of road-book and the use of the security instruments and navigation. So that the concepts were well clear, the day was in charge of an expert: the French Cyril Despres, winner of the Dakar in 2005, 2007 and 2010. Through recommendations and anecdotes, the participants obtained the necessary information to be well prepared for this event.
“Somehow is the way to maintain that spirit shared in common that is a characteristic of the Dakar. I always wanted to do something like this. I felt very well”, explained the Gaul, who always was willing to evacuate the doubts of those who will be their rivals. But also there were several well-known local faces since ASO invited several Argentine pilots who already ran in the Dakar so that they could tell his experience to the novices. They were the brothers Marcos and Alejandro Patronelli, Eduardo Alan, Rodolfo Baker, Sebastián Halpern, Patxi Otaño and Jose Luis Palma, among others. This day began at 8 and finished past 19 and its result on will be able to verify just from 1º of January of 2011…

It looks like the top of the seat is about even with his elbow - is he short, is that bike super tall, both, or just strange camera angle?

That front fairing looks unmistakably like a copy of the KTM 690 Rally ditto.
Proven solutions that work well is a functional way to do things
