Thanks for all your good wishes and thoughts Andrew, nomad guy and Zack. It's a great place for backpacking, but we were riding our ds's when it happened (actually in Sequoia NF, between Kings Canyon and Sequoia NPs). Surgery on Thursday, small plate and screws to repair the ankle joint, and possibly a longer screw if the large ligament between tib & fib is torn. There will be a ride report at some point :eek1
(and I was wrong about the bone--actually is the tibia that fractured, in two places)
Oh Man, good luck with the surgery and a full recovery wishes.
Oh, Charles! I'm so sorry to hear about Mrs. HWD I can totally relate to how miserable and frustrated she must be.
Please give her our best, will you? I hope she bounces back and is not too discouraged; I'd hate for this to keep her off the bike in the future.
We'll be up at Monaghan's by 6:30 or so. I left my wallet in Petaluma last night so will be piloting the pillion spot. Guess this means I can drink, heh
Regrets, not able to make tonite !!! A BAD day at the office, working very late !
Enjoy... hope to catch you all next time.
Those who didn't make it to Monaghan's missed out! The six of us had a great time...
And thanks for the loan of the seat, Chris! Eric's loving it and I like it, too, as the rear is higher and I can see a lot better. We want to go on a longer ride and see if it's comfortable over the long haul before we commit to one but it fits the bill so far.
See y'all next month. How does Pacific Coast Brewery sound?
Pictures look good. I had a great time hanging out with everyone and learning more about them. Hope to make the next get together!
Ya - The Corbin is OK on the highway but was no fun on the Deer Springs trail we did this last weekend. You mentioned it was hard at the bottom of the valley - Well, It reminded me of the Rubicon!! We could not get up the south side of the trail so had to go back UP where we came from. 5 miles took about 2.5 hours!! Don't worry, I only scuffed the KTM 990 not the seat!
The easy spot
The flat part
It was hard going down - so you can imagine what it was like coming back up...I was not yet sweating like a pig.
Paul after riding 100 yards uphill.
The deeper river crossing - get ready to get wet. So deep, the water got to some of my fuses.
This photo does not do elevation justice - less dirt, more rocks.
I found the Nordic Knives shop. What a place!! I spent about 45 minutes in there talking to one of the salesmen. Turns out he used to own a 1960something Triumph Tiger back in the day. We swapped travel stories and I got to play around with some amazing knives while we talked.
Thanks for the recommendation!!
Cool! Glad you liked the knife shop, Jeff. A unique place, indeed.
Say, while not exactly East Bay... I rode out to Marin this morning for coffee at Bovine, and have to say the roads are in great shape. Lucas Valley is smooth, and Highway 1 has lots of fresh asphalt, from Bolinas Lagoon up and past Point Reyes Station. This is a great time to be out riding over there.
I agree with you ... I took my wife on 2 short rides across the bay this summer, over lucas valley road to highway one and up to bodega bay and the roads are quite nice indeed! I must get out again before it starts getting dark by 5pm.
I have heard of it but where is it?
Throw an Event
Sounds like a cacophony of delight! :slurp
So, Pacific Brewing Company.
How about Wednesday 10/10?

How come you guys only meet when I'm out of town?
I'll start showering more.
Hate to say it, but I think I'm going to miss this one (and maybe the next few). Closed on a new house today, baby due in two weeks, not a whole lot of free time right now.
I know, I know, you're crushed, but I insist you carry on without me.
