I know you where joking, but I was at a stealership (just getting a oil filter) riding the NRS. A sales slug approached me and was pushing the new "Narrow" Soft Tail. I let him rattle on and then queried about HP. The reply was out of the mother-ships playbook: "Oh, power does not matter. It is the looks".
Nothing to add to that; it stands on it's own absurdity.
The VR now has 6k and it is time for a oil change. Nothing scary about that save the price of oil. $26 for a 5qt jug #%^>%~!!!!
The bike has not used a drop in the last 3k and the rear tire is good for at least another 3 to 4k.
I just completed my first "real" road trip with the NRS. I took the NRS on my Abilene Texas test loop - 423 mile loop from the DfW area to Abilene, TX and back to the DfW area via US180 (no interstate usage). All I can say is that I have no worries about the fall 5k trip.
Seat - the seat worked out fine. During the whole 423 miles I never felt tired or worn down. When my hip started to feel a bit cramped, I simply rested my legs on the top of the forward controls and all was well (just about a mile that way and all felt better to return to normal riding position). On very long trips I will put a bicycle jell seat pad in the "man junk" area of the seat but that I do on all my bikes to keep things happy.
Mileage - well we know NRS and the lack of high mileage. On this run, with 6k on the motor, the fuel mileage came out at 38mpg. Not bad for the bike but my XR does 52mpg on the same test run. It is what it is.
Motor - now this is where I am all smiles. In 5th doing 70mph or 100mph, no difference was felt. It just does it. Many times on the test run I had to pass (wanted to pass) doddlers and a simple twist of the throttle did it. No need to drop a gear, just twist and go. Since the motor is so smooth I found myself at or over 90 (TX back road speed limit is 70mph) many times; not a issue with me but the DPS troopers take a dim view of that - at least in the urban areas, out west they pass you while you are at 90mph or better).
Spitfire wind screen - the Spitfire wind screen did a bang up job. It kept the wind off my chest and from the mass of yellow splatters, it also kept a massive amount of bugs off me (screen looks like I lost a battle with a yellow paint can).
240 Scorcher rear tire - the rear tire was no issue but I did note that due to the width it has a tendency to not knowing what side of a tar snake to ride on. It does not slip, just rides left or right on a tar snake, with the front running down the center of the tar snake.
All in all I like the setup and the NRS is good to go for road trips. I will do a "spring" road run in the next few weeks and that will be the final test for the ergonomics and the motor.

in 2007 one of my buddies knocked my bike over with his benz, (i parked my bike way out of the way and he still managed to hit it,) and it fell on the right side. the lower pipe had a slight scratch, and the front brake lever took the impact and bent 180 degrees, the rubber throttle grip had a scuff at the end . i cut the lever at the bend and rode for around 3 weeks with about 2 inches of front brake lever. replaced the lever for around 40 bucks.

I have 8.5k on my 2012 NRS and I have noted a strange tire wear behavior. It seems that the stock Scorchers, no burn outs just highway millage and commuting, seem to wear slightly more in the front than the rear.
I know I am due for a new set of tires but this is the first bikeI have ever owned that wore the front tire slightly faster than the rear. Most of the time, have owned just about every brand of bike and tire, one uses two rear tires to one front. Just as a FYI, I run 36psi F and 42psi R.
The question now is, is this due to the bike or my riding habits? The tire are wearing even and there is no other visible wear save the wear indicators are coming more and more into view.
Possibly rider habit? I say that only because I have heard from a couple different people with either the XR like you have or the XR1200X that they burn through fronts faster than the rear. Maybe from more spirited riding with a heavier bike?
Either way, 8.5K sounds good to me. My little ex500 needs a rear tire between 3-5K miles.
Did a bit more research and found out that it is a "trait" of the V-Rods to use F and R tires in a 1:1 ratio. Given that one keeps up with the tire pressure it does not seem to matter how spirited the rider is the F and R wear together: also given that no burn outs are done.
Oh well, I guess it will be a set at a time. This time I will go for the Pirelli Night Dragons. The stock Scorchers are good but the Night Dragons are supposedly way better; also I refuse to pay a stealership $300 for one rear tire when I can get a set of Pirellies for the same price.
Well, the stock Scorcher's lasted to 11,500 miles. They gave me very good service and are not a bad tire; save the cost of obtaining them at the stealership. After a lot of reading and searching I settled on a set of Pirelli Night Dragons.
That was one of the best tire choices I made since the Pilot Road 2's for my XR. The Pirelli tires are not only a lot better in corners, they also absorb a lot more of the bumps and jolts of TX roads. Riding the NRS over the same roads I take to work every day I noted a big difference in the way bumps and corners are handled by the bike. Missing are the back killing jolts from swollen road seams; they are more like bumps now instead of "out of the seat lifting" jolts.
Now if the mileage is as good as they where on the Scorchers I will have found my tire for the NRS. In two weeks the NRS will go on a 3 to 4k trip and it will show how they hold up.
