If it were me I would use contact cleaner/precision cleaner. Others will leave a residue. When its something as simple as running to the store to get the right cleaner I would just go with the proper cleaner.

I'm in a small town in Iceland. It's the only thing I have on me. I went around to find some contact cleaner, but nothing seems to be available. I think I might be dealing with a dying battery anyway. Need to get a boost and try to make it to Reykjavik to get a new one maybe.

Should be no problem, it evaporates quickly and is safe for o/x rings (make sure your's is!) so it shouldnt do harm to anything.
