I like your firm commitment to not commit.... you are starting to sound like Wild Bill..
I'm heading over Friday morning from Edmond. I'll be taking the KTM 520 exc-r over on the back of my FJ Cruiser. The 520 is a WHOLE lot more fun than my 950 Adv. at SLAP.
Plus, I need all my creature comforts since we won't have the lodge this year...
Just did the hillbilly and had a great time! Would love to do SLAP but I know there is no lodging at Byrds. I have a 43 ft 5th wheel toyhauler but currently am between trucks to pull it and being as how I have NO camping gear (just a sleeping bag) may consider sleeping in the back of my Blazer. Have done this before but was a bit younger then.
I've been checking out the pics from the Arkansas 500. Wow....some great pics. I'm mad at myself for missing that ride. No way I'm missing it next year!
We have a request for Wednesday so the next one will be Wed.
Where would everyone like the next meet be at?
I remember some people saying they liked the last place- Turek's Tavern
In Choctaw. We can meet there or a new place.
I'm game for anything!!!!...
Let's gets some folks together and start some ride planning... doesn't matter if you are old and slow... noobie..... KTM crazy fast guy... Motorcycle Camper,,,, Traveler.... etc... what the heck ever... you like to ride... what ever....
So... I've been thinking...
June is the Flint Hills Stampede in S.E. Kansas... which is actually a great ride, believe or not. I have already put in my vacation time for it.
But in the back of my mind i'm thinking it might be even cooler to knock off the eastern half of the Oklahoma Adventure Loop. I have already taken friday off of work, so my thought is to head north after work and end up at Lake McMurtry or someplace like that thursday night, then head east in the morning.
I'm thinking of riding as much as can be ridden on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, then peel off and head home, where ever we are at.
I'd like to camp most of the way, but if had to hotel, it wouldn't be the end of the world.
Sunset for June 14th is 8:47 pm...(Thursday night after work...)
Any adventurous souls out there?
i looked into that ride, but that's the weekend of my sons birthday. so that weekend is out for like the next 15 years......... Maybe they will do it on a different weekend next year.
Flint Hills Stampede
Oklahoma Adventure Loop
If you are willing to commit, i'll try and change days at work...!
Eastern half of OAL...
I have signed up for Slap, will haul the DRZ over Friday. Will not be able to make any of the meet and greets for a while working really bad hours.
I have checked out the OK ADV Loop would like to do it but June is way to busy.
Sounds fun to me!!!
MC Murtry is about 10 miles from me!!
I could be flexible as to which weekend works out for others
I'd be in for this wednesday. Enjoyed the last one...
(besides, it's close).
Except maybe not such a positive maybe. I'll firm up my plans a couple of days before?
If I go and need be I can put together a mostly non-paved ride over, starting near Shawnee it is all pretty good gravel roads but the farther east you get the more interesting it becomes.
Oh yeah, don't tell gmsnowball but this is my couch
Add "Really" before "old and slow" delete "KTM crazy fast guy" and I'm all the rest. I'm semi-retired so can make time to whatever fits.
Just so long as I have some help getting my bike back on its feet when it takes a nap
I see Shawnee Bill has checked in. Hope you enjoyed the trip to CoTA. Was glad to meet you there. We had a blast down there, but were truly beat when it was done. Mars, check in soon!
I ended up flagging between turn 2 and 3.
Had a fun weekend standing out there all day for three days.
My total cost to attend the inaugural Austin MotoGP?
Gas to drive down and back and a couple of cups of coffee. Other than that having to stand 20 feet from the track with a flag at the ready, only waved the yellow flag in anger twice in three days, had that many red flags.
Free camping for volunteers on track, free breakfast and lunch, they served good BBQ one evening, pizza another, my nephew from San Antonio bought my dinner at Cracker Barrel Friday.
Oh yeah, I drove home right after the races, terrible 100 mile or longer traffic jam from Temple to north of Waco. Pulled over and slept for an hour at that first rest area in Oklahoma.
Got home, showered, fired up the DVR and watched the MotoGP and Seattle SX before going to bed at about 4 AM.
That all sounds quite good. I'm glad you enjoyed it. So...ya up for Indy? I can hook you up.
Sounds like it would be fun. However, I'm going to be at the Washougal National MX that weekend. Don't tell GMSnowball Gary that I can't find near the couch time he does.
