Been thinking about starting a post for the Oz/Kiwi riders of older generation bikes, not neccessarily dual-purpose/enduro types but also roadies that are out there and being used to travel to rallys / around Australia whatever?
    :freaky :kumbaya :ricky
Post a photo of your bike/s, bit of a story would be good. :lol3

I'll kick it off with my two beasties! :huh

White beast is a 1981 Special, set up for touring. :cromag

Yellow beast is a 1975 body with 1974 motor, various mods, used for touring and sometimes for the odd enduro charity ride. :topes

So anybody with a bike 25 years & older, who uses it on a regular basis, lets have look at your ride! :eek1

    11/1981 R100RS John Player Special.

Used almost daily, mostly commuting, with the occasional blast thru the nearby ranges, a few annual weekenders over the Vic Alps and the Snowies, and a rare long interstate trip. I did a quick 4500k blast up the Newall and back the New England last year, 6 days, due to time constraints. Would've loved a leisurely tour, but not to be.

Close to 200K now, but going strong. The final drive is about to get a new spline.

Well this probably doesn't count as this bike is a resto project and whilst it will get used, it won't be often. :cry

Just means a lot to me the Suzi. :evil

I recently picked up a DR400 which turns 30 this month.
It needs some tidying up, but it's very original down to the helmet lock on the handlebars.

I've started giving it the once over and the wheels and spokes come up like new with a little polish.
With a period correct big tank, it should be a good thing for "retro adventure riding".
    I've also got a '78 SP370, just picked up a PE250 from 1980 and will take delivery of a '72 DT2MX shortly as well.
Then there's a couple of 40 year old CT90's kicking about...... :evil

Let's see some of those classics out there, preferably at rallies and getting dirty.

Rescued from McCardigan garage:lol3. After a wiring rebuild. it is almost a daily rider now. Too nice a bike to have hiding away in a garage.

you dont call wagga wagga wagga
Neither the RD nor the XS are in regular use. The XS isn't registered at the moment.
The RD was bought by my brother in December '72, early shipment of the '73 model. I bought it in '76, when I weighed a bit more like my son. Crashed it into a semi at Moonbi in '79 and finally got it finished & re-registered (historic) in 2005. Had it out at Oran Park in Dec '09 and had a ball around the back of the circuit, held it to 85mph down the straight.:clap

The XS is a 1980 model I bought in '81. Seen here with a mate's GL1000 'wing. I rode it until the early 90's, then loaned it to my brother for a couple of years. It spent quite a few years dragging a double chair around and then I semi retired it around '98. Got it back on the road a couple of years, just for 12 months. Needs some tidy up - including a re-spray and chrome. I would like to buy it a battery and get it road worthy again before the end of May. See what happens.
