I haven't said a bad word about XS's (at least not within your earshot) :lol3

You are bigger and hairier than me.

It would be good to see the XS chugging into Karuah (will it hapen :dunno )

It looks like a good chance that the 'White Beast' may be making an appearance this year, :eek1
Weather forcast is for a dry one, wet weather does worry the bikes - it's the poor old arthritic sooky rider that doesn't like camping in the rain :lol3
Did enough of that when I was in uniform, all be it younger & dumber

1984 GPz900R serial#00000064. Don't know if this would qualify: Imported into Canada from Europe, dismantled and boxed-up for about 10 years, imported into NZ, assembled in Dunedin, returned to Canada:D

I like those old fellas, but I think Smacca & Smithy here in Yass will be drooling over that beastie, very nice to see it in that condition :thumb :eek2:tb

Yep, but it's a frustrating exercise grafting an XS motor into one of those frames, plus the bullshit involved with rego/engineering certs, etc. [in NSW] :deal
Rather use post '74 frame, change frontend / rearend, with other heavier/modern units [YZ frontends seem popular] :eek1

    Hi Hunter
Finally got mine on the road and after 22 years out of the saddle, what a High! This old girl has 95K on clock, 2 years in total retirement and no care. With the fitment of new rear, chain and a few other incindentals I am a purely dedicated Suzi rider. The Wet season waited till I had her on the road but still a great feel, while they all sat back in their air-conditioned cars. I cannot explain the exhileration being the absolute master of my own mobilisation and able to leave them in my wake at our many roundabouts. I'll ride a bike till i'm a hundred or die in the process!!!!!!!!!! How I insert a pic, I have yet to realise, but in the meantime I am in seventh heaven!

Thanks for the encouragement Hunter, although it doesn't seem all that necessary when you consider what we are working with. Although in between jobs at the moment, the old girl has become my very trusty daily rider. The difference between a car and bike are immense especially when it comes to what you can do on your own and i plan to get this old girl up to new one day. Apologies at this point to Velocette etc riders. I know the word OLD is well trespassing but I can certainly feel a similar affliction. At present she doesn't look that posh but it's a bike and it goes round corners like no other vehicle can and costs bugger all in the meantime. Who knows this might even lead me to find some old pommy unit myself. Lord knows I am probably in the right territory here in Cairns with the Tablelands to the west. I'll get my private IT assistant, namely my son, to help me with photo. In the meantime, thanks for a great site [fantastic reading and pics] and stay upright, if slightly on a lean occassionally.

Well if you want proof of how tough these old beasts are, try this on for size :ear
Thought I'd better change the oil & filter on the 'White Beast', no probs, dropped the oil out - 'shit this is a bit dark??', :eek1
pulled the paper filter out, using a MikesXS system, 59,500kms marked on the filter, 70,787kms on the speedo, only 6,000kms overdue!!! :deal
I really need a good kick up the arse sometimes, gotta start running logbooks again!!! :lol3

oh oh, my latest project is the shed find 1974 ish BMW R75/6 bitsa.

It's all there and solid as, no damage or rust, doesn't appear to be very original but it came with about 100kg of spare parts in 4 large crates and a spare R75/7 motor, woo! Looking forward to working on my first European bike, having only previously worked on old British, American and Japanese bikes I can already tell this is going to be civilised and refined. Plan is to just leave it's 70's patina as is and make it a solid club rego bike for rallys and weekends for my father.

You know how it goes. Starts off with an oil change on the BM and you think while I am here. Might as well fix/ or do this.

New parts from the UK. Electronic Bean can (advance and retard) cam chain fork springs. New alternator.
