You could try, if you want... but I didn't

That's near Lake Kenyir, in north eastern Malaysia. I had a Malaysian guy on the back of the bike, we were out looking for Hornbills (saw lots). We were sitting on the abandoned road, waiting... and I asked him if he'd ever seen a tiger. "No, but I've seen wet footprints on the road after rain". Where? "There"

I just didn't quite feel comfortable after that. There was plenty of wild elephant shit on the road too.

Here's one from Laos. I'd been along it on the big Katoom, a year earlier, with friends in their trucks, taking clothes to a remote village. Landslides killed it... scooter only now, although I took the 525... and was double the weight of anything else using these flimsy crossings over landslides. 400' straight down here, into the Mekong

Another one in Laos. My GPS said it was good. It wasn't

I'd come down it. To get back up, I had to let the tyre down and get off and push, with it in gear

    No-one around either...

This was as far as I got. Flash photo.... damn dark on this road, in the middle of the day

Another landslide. Only 200' this time... but that dark patch, upper centre, was a fresh slide. Again... I was twice as heavy as any other traffic. Always a pleasant thought, that.

I can see the eyes from here man, 3m away, just above your tailbag.............

My cousin worked for WWF up there in the mid-90s trying to build the tiger numbers back up again, you can blame him if you like.

Nice country up there, gets under your skin a bit.

I've seen the eyes.... big, bright, yellow eyes... in southern Sumatra. I was with a guide, we were chasing the large frogmouth (bird), which we found. We saw the tiger beside the road, at night... then a kilometre further down the track, the guide stopped and we were off into the jungle, 150 metres or more. I was less than comfortable. His comment... "don't worry, they don't eat anyone here, only up in Aceh".

I saw tracks well into the jungle in Malaysia too - on a three hour trek to see the world's largest flower, the Rafflesia, there were a couple of footprints in some drying mud. As they say, you only have to be the second slowest runner in the group.

In Southeast Missouri, I found an abandoned forest service road. After moving the tree, I ended up inside a locked parking lot for an old fire watch tower.

The lot was within sight of US-60, but hadn't seen traffic in years. The pavement was covered in inches-thick pine needles, and the tower was surrounded by a fence with barbed wire.

The sand gets put there by logging trucks coming out of the woods, it comes and goes depending on how active they are.

This is 10-15 miles west of there, several roads like this east of Palatka.

    Which turned to this...
    and ended up here:

at a very isolated HUGE lake.

Where's that at? The sections of old 34 I have been on aren't that abandoned, I've been on some sections of old 92 that are getting pretty bad.

The abandoned runway, briefly the world's busiest airport, is dead centre

Careful where you walk... or ride. Lots of unexploded ordnance laying around
