    It needs extensive clean-up and maintenance from 18 years of sitting. The picture makes it look better than it is. That is assuming I don't sell it first. :deal

    In my mind's eye I saw a sweet streettracker or maybe a cafe racer.

    That's no rat. That's a beautiful bike, and an awesome alloy tank.

    Thanks, but if ya look close at the tank you can see many dents from race'n crash's. Gotta find someone who works on alloy tanks, It is a very high quality thick walled race tank.

    This one is not my actual bike, but this was my first "real" dirt bike in the 70s. remember the Hodaka Dirt Squirt?:

    oh, jeez, this thread is re-starting an itch I thought was long ago scratched.
    Unreliable, unpredictable POSs. (I keep saying to myself.) Keep 'em coming...but if someone wheels out a black shadow, i'm toast.

    ohhhh no-ooooo...why did i sell it?! ;-\)

    i had a 1972 (or 73?) Ossa ISDT Replica. same tank as yours, but white with red. i bought it new because i was tired of coming off my Yamaha CT2 when the shocks pumped up.
    the Ossa had two problems: the Spanish Amal carb not only blew gas into the [cute little] air filter, but it was way too rich or something. i spent a lot of time fiddling with the fuel/oil ratio and special spark plugs... i can't remember how i eventually fixed it. the other problem was that the shocks were way too soft, even for my 55kg. but the frame geometry was so right, the bike just tracked on straight even with the rear end bouncing around.
    <sigh>

    hmh! what year is it? i've never seen one. that's a bike i'd like to get. maybe we didn't get them here in South Africa. (all i know are the XTs (of course), the TTs and the SR road version.)

    what i want now is a Yamaha BT100 Bulldog, but we don't get them here. apparently the US got them this year, or maybe it's the 2005 model. it's so frustrating, i'm trying to find out if i can get one from the UK, what that'll involve.

    :thumb Very nice, Marc. I assume it started life as a military model? Do you ever go to the AMCA meets?

    Yep it started out life as a World War 2 military bike. I got it after sitting in a barn for 30 years (beleive it or not) as a bobber and restored it to civilian trim. It was a lot of fun to ride but it was really only a short distance bike. 50 to 55 mph was about all the farther I wanted to push it. It is now living in a museum. I do miss it but just could not turn down the rediculus offer I was made for it. I may do another one some day if it presents itself to me.

    Thanks,
    Marc
