Opinions on Yam ttr250 dual sport conversion

    Howdy, I have really got the dual sport bug hanging out here with you folks. I have a DR650 and a DRZ400s. Been eyeballing a leftover 2004 Yamaha TTR 250 and my local stealership. Nice and simple, low tech 'cycle. Kinda think it would be a fun project to convert it to street legal. I have rebuilt bikes and got titles in Pennsylvania but never tried to title a 'dirt bike'. Any and all comments are welcome including- " ARE YOU NUTS????" and "SAVE YOUR MONEY FOR A REAL BIKE????":norton

    Why would you bother? You have 2 good dual sport bikes already. I don't think a TTR would fulfill any great fantasies for you. I think it'd be such a similar ride to your 2 existing bikes that it'd be a bore. That's just MY opinion though! :D

    My wife had a TTR250 that was plated. Fun bike in the dirt, but dog slow on the street. 50cc scooters would pull away from it with authority.

    for tight off road single track you'll have more fun on this then your other bikes. on road, not as much. this and the drz250 are popular down under, nice bikes. check locally re licensing, some states are real easy, others fogettaboutitt

    check the other thread here on the xt225, hell he has lots of fun on it in high elevations, small bores rule :1drink

    Thanks for the input guys. Since it seems to have a 'pokey' engine and gets dusted by 50cc scooters:D I have changed my mind. After figuring the cost of the bike, re-registration, light kit, speedo, etc.- it was $400 more to buy a 2006 Kawi KLX250s. And I DID! Rode it 68 miles tonight. It is 60 pounds lighter than my 650 and feels like a toy-but I like it!!! It will be perfect for my nephew when we go riding. Thanks to all for your input.:clap
