OSO LOCO!! KTM 990s attack Colorado, Utah, and the best of the TAT

Discussion in 'Ride Reports - Epic Rides' started by LittleWan, Aug 21, 2013.

?

What did the Osos do after Lica's hit in Hell's Gate?

  1. Hit the 911 button on Lica's spot and waited for search and rescue

  2. Called Radek's cop buddy and got a TOY 4x4 extraction

  3. What's the problem? He rode out with one hand and no throttle - OSO!!!

  4. With the engineering flow chart, WD-40 and duct tape - trail repair, baby!

  5. Flagged down a tour jeep and put the bike in the back with some French tourists

  6. This is just a ploy to buy time and still act like you're working on the report, isn't it?

Woo hoo! The Wans are loose again, and this time apparently without the voice of reason! After all, if the Voice of Reason was present, Bartek would have changed out that TKC80.

    :dllama

Thanks for writing up another one Kelly!

Hi Kelly and Matt. Watching with interest. Loved Colorado last year and would love to ride more of it.
Have you had a chance to check out the Americas Cup boats. ?

I'm in.. I know you make Black Bear two up on a 990 :eek1:eek1. Because you're writing up another excellent RR.
It has to be an awesome video. I was going to pass on it (riding BB) I'm getting a bit too close to 60, and/or, I need a smaller bike.
However,, if you guys can ride it two up on a 990, I've got to suck it up (with my woefully inadequate skills) and give it a shot..
Thanks for posting, I've read all your previous RRs, always entertaining and informative. :clap

Sure would like to hear Big Wan's tips for riding two up in the dirt. You two do amazing things on that schoolbus. I don't even like riding two up on the street on mine.

    Day 2: 8/2/13
Ely, NV to St. George, UT 346 miles

I had asked for 3 rooms on the ground floor,
we ended up with 153, 154, and another room (around the corner).

Bartek and Osito were next to the pool

Lica likes to start the day with a lubed chain...

Osito was having some problems with his ignition switch.
(thus the cutting out he experienced yesterday).

Matt ran to the store and bought a butane soldering iron -
then they went about fixing a loose wire.

I took some tire pics in the meantime.

    Lica's 908

    Scott's 908

    Bartek's TKC80

    and, our Rally rear

    and Rally front

Meanwhile, Scott's SE was making a weird ticking noise that had everyone concerned.
(matt says it was coming from the cam chain tensioner, which meant low oil pressure)

It had made that noise in Baja, at Rancho Ojai, but the outside temp had been 30°F.
Not the case here in Ely.

    :hmmmmm

After breakfast and a fuel up, it was time to get back to the dirt.

    (nice photo, Lica! :thumb)

10am - not breaking any records :rolleyes

As awesome as our group was, we were all learning that traveling in a big pack definitely had its drawbacks.
    Patience is a virtue!

It was a beautiful morning, clear and sunny.

But, Radek's bike was overheating again.

It didn't make sense for flat, open dirt.
To rule out a defective radiator cap, Radek and Lica switched caps.

While the guys were troubleshooting, I took some pics of all the Oso Loco stickers. :D

We had a bunch more gates today.
    Gracias, Ostito!

See all those black dots in the upper left corner?
    They were crows.

Radek got a good shot of them in the trees...

    More gates.
    Thanks, Lica!

When we stopped here at this turn,
Radek said his bike was still running hot...

    Hmm. Blurry.

The riding had been fast, but not very interesting.
So, when we came to this hill - the guys were all over it. :wings

    Hola Bartek!! :nomystery

    We've been waiting for you!

Can you believe that Lica has a shinier bike than Osito now????
    :lol3

    Hi Joe!
Nice to see you! Hope your ribs are healed up.
Oh, be careful - your favorite step is even worse this year than it was in 2012 :eek1
I'll have some pics/screen caps for you on day 12...

    hi Jonathan!
Thanks for joining us again. How's the leg doing?
    hope it healed quickly!
Yeah - I gave the Voice of Reason to redog1 last year...I might have made a huge tiny mistake. :lol3

    Buongiorno, Paul!

Um. Are you supposed to be checking ADV on your honeymoon??
    :nono

Heh. Hope you and Jill had a great trip!
Did you get gyros on Santorini?? :yum

    Aw, thanks, Ol Man!
I appreciate you reading them! :D

    hi Phil,
Yes, Colorado is worthy of a return trip! :thumb The TAT just skims CO. There's a lot more to see.
We got a little more this time, but still missed a bunch.

Nope, haven't looked at the boats at all! I forgot all about the Amer. cup, actually. :dunno
    It's been a bit of a bust.

    hey MizzouRider!
haha, that little bit :up has probably made a lot of folks dig a little deeper... :evil
But, it's worth it for Black Bear! This was our 2nd time.
It's soooo beautiful, definitely give it a shot.
There are just a few tough spots, and it's mostly that they mess with your mind...

    Gee, thanks, AteamNM! :shog
happy to have you along for this one, too :D
Wait til you see how a 500 lb trials bike does in Moab!! :evil

    Yay, hi Steve!
Hope you still have a good internet connection for the linkies! :D

    Thanks, Scribe!
    Heh, you don't want BigWan's tips -
    they're things like - Don't slow down! :eek1

    p.s. I actually prefer dirt to street...:dunno
    cars are dangerous!!

    Hi Joel! :wave

Oh, I hope I can live up to the hype... :hide

And, with this report - I hope the sales of KTMs don't go down...:eek1

    ORANGE skin?
    :huh

    Heh. :lol3

I guess you guys are used to the blue shorts...

....the voice of reason, not sure it's workin for me but I'll hold onto it for a couple of years. I've got a 1-2 year plan, when I move to my KTM950se, I'll pass it along. I've decided to patch up the 2 KLR's and get 1-2 more years out of them and then move onto a bigger, better more powerful ride. I'm ready. :D More than ready...:deal:clap

At first glance the D30 Armor looked fleshy with a fishnet wrap, not nearly as Orange as the decals on the Bus. Perhaps I was right, he rarely wears underwear........

Hey Kelly and Crew -- Getting my nightly fix of another great Wan ride report. :clap

You guys were close to my backyard. This hill climbs are near Parowan Gap. Here's a pic plus one of the petroglyphs. You may have been riding too fast (or been too hungry) to notice. :lol3

    [IMG][IMG]

Carry on. And a big thanks for all the effort. Your readers appreciate it!

For a while, the lacy underwear photo wasn't showing up (at least not for me)...:dunno
Now it looks like it's back... yay.:huh

    Nope, underwear is a must.
    :D Tiene huevos muy grande...
However, nothing as racy as the number you selected... :eek1

    Haha,
hang on to the Voice of Reason....
from what I can tell, you'll need it more than ever if you get an SE :deal
    :dllama

    Hi RRR!

Oh, right! There's a bathroom there - I always notice it as we zoom by...

Thanks for the pic! Yeah, we suck at stopping to sightsee.

We did make an exception for Newspaper rock and the black dragon wash petroglyphs, though. :D

Stay tuned - We're getting closer and closer to your backyard!
