The ride Tina (sabertooth butterfly) and I made to the corner for Scrapheap. It is long, my apologies.

When my friend Tina asked me if I wanted to go for ‘a short ride in the countryside’ I had been riding my adventure bike for a couple of months. I had ridden on dirt roads a few times. However, I said yes without more than a cursory thought, knowing full well that she meant a 10 day venture into the outback. Call it a midlife crisis if you will (and I do) but there comes a time in life where you need to shake things up a bit. Well the corrugations, moonscape rocky roads and sand certainly did shake something up!

Tina’s ‘short ride in the countryside’ was the Scrapheap Adventure Challenge. This charity ride raises funds for Down Syndrome NSW and revolves around buying a bike for less than $1000 then riding it to a remote location, this year that was Cameron Corner. Tina’s bike was a Sach’s Madass scooter, bought for $350, modified for a little extra power and dirt riding ability. For most of the riding community, to take a motorcycle like this into the desert is crazy. To do it supported by nothing more than a novice rider on another bike is absolute madness. But we were keen to give it a go, have some fun, plus hopefully raise some much needed funds for a very worthy cause.[IMG]

It was uplifting to see just how much Nazza was enjoying herself. It was worth riding out there just for that.
