Thanks LL - sneaky! the magnets idea wouldn't work with the 2010 plastics - but some thoughtfully selected and carefully applied temporary glue would. I like where this is going ……

Winter will soon be here in BC, Canada, so this might be a little cold weather, weekend project. Either doing the whole tank, with the 'blue and white' style pattern - but using my existing red as the base, with alpine white as the accent.

Where would I buy that skinny black pin stripe for marking off the boundaries? Big box / auto store I guess?

I painted my Touratech all blue first then masked it and then painted the white. Put on the pinstrip and finally clearcoted it. Paint is available from Colorite.
http://www.colorrite.com/

For the pinstrip I went to O'Reilly's Autoparts and bought 1/8 inch. What ever one you get test it with the clearcote first to make sure it doesn't bleed.

It also helps to have a friend who knows what he's doing to help out. :D

Here's another big tank pic taken in Lassen park

You could use an overhead projector on table or stool that rolls. Put pattern on the screen and roll it around until you get something you like.

I almost repainted mine with a marine camouflage blue, white, black and grey.

If you have a red base and black panels, I would look at camouflage schemes.

There was a nice red, white, black and grey I saw on a Jeep that I thought would look great on a beemer.

I painted this and am hitting the road for a year on my Ruckus. If anyone wants it, free to you (great for a garage) - just asking for shipping.

Bring it by the tech day and I'll take it. No shipping. It would look great in my garage. It is the best looking color combo!

Thanks,

With regard to the pics here... can some one please tell me if those bikes with the single color fender to same color middle connector ... is different than stock... or just used on the 1150's? Would that fit on the 1100GS?

If I recall correctly (it's been 13 years) I paid $200 extra for it. It might have gone away in the negotiation. Damn my memory. Still looks great though. I was one of those who thought the "GS" decal clashed with the design so I had that taken off.

Best colour ever, my first GS and still one of my favourites. When I bought mine I asked the salesman for a little discount as I had no part ex. The best he did was put me forward for a 4 month wait instead of 6 😯.
