I will post up a time in a couple days when we have a chance to decide what day to go. What day is good for you, Sat or Sun?

I left the house this morning around 6:30 and took my new scoot for about a hundred mile loop around Conecuh County. Nice and cool out, w/ very little traffic. Made it home and had a second cup of coffee before my girls got up.

This GS is a super bike. I never got the warm and fuzzies over the ST1100, but I think this one is going to be a keeper. Maybe one of the local GS riding inmates can give me some pointers and wisdom.

Sorry Pete, if you want a GS, you'll have to find your own. (At least for now!)

Hope everybody has a safe weekend.

Rick next sunday would be super for me,,,,but can make saturday if I must.

Frank, without a doubt,,Billy Z. is the GS Giant around these parts. He's spent the time and bucks to set-up his GS to go whatever he pleases.
If you go ridin with him, ya better buckle your seat belt.:lol3

There's GSA's a-plenty at the Oasis Truckstop every saturday morning, but those guys wouldn't dream of taking them down a dirt road.

Frank - even though I haven't had a boxer bike, I did have an old school BMW 320i coupe. A '78. Bought it from my Navy buddy who put over 220 thousand miles on it. He painted it original color, and offered it to me. It was so well put together I could not believe it, nor refuse for the buddy price asked.

Yes, apples and oranges, and crude by today's standards, but if my upscale VW (320i) was any indication of how them BMW things hum - well... bz knows alll about that bidness! :-) And I gotta taste.

Glad you found "the" compromise - for now anyway. Mugwest (I think) was smitten by them. I think I'd like to ride 30 or 60 miles on one also. Just to "feel" it. Know what I mean? Good news.

    Good news for sure.

I'll have to meet Billy Z and maybe buy him lunch if he'll share some secrets w/ me.

I rode 2.5 hours this morning and half of it was exploring dirt roads. Just like I used to do w/ my XRL and my DR. W/ this bike though, I can load the panniers and go across the country in relative comfort.

My next goal is to get a pic w/ it in front of a Starbucks. That's just too good to pass up.

As road-farkled as it was, my brand-spankin new VStrom with the Deathwings felt lost on sandy/silty roads. Maybe it was just me - or maybe the machinary. Them stock tires sucked though... but it was probably just me. Those DL1000s are a LOTTA bike... Sheer V-Twin grunt.

But I loved the 2nd gear wheelies. (waitaminute - did i just say that? ;-)

Bat Country? Hell, this was botany country, bubba. Loaded up with Perz the damned biologist and headed out on bikes for a weekend of dust and close-call hijinks and a few steps over the line as SOP. Perz was a great skilled silent-good rider (the sneaky-good kind) and was a good wingman for all the shenanigans we'd eat and foster. I knew the trap i was in though when we stopped on the 50/50 route and I winged out a piss and he said, "As your Biologist I'll have you know you are pissing on a prized bromeliad, there Doctor."

I knew after that exchange to keep him close, lest he throw poison ivy cuttings in my helmet, the bastard. The skilled bastard.
