great so far, I'm headed for MOAB next week. would have loved to made this ride with you. From my experience last year, the pig I ride is not so much fun on those passes. Stay safe:D

I did eat in Lake City as well. I kept an eye out for you but maybe I lost you in the crowd of pirates there...:lol3 I camped out by Alta Lake that evening.

It was cool to see you out on the trail as well. The Dakar is my Super Bowl every year, I really do not keep up with traditional sports so bumping into you was the equivalent to a football fan bumping into Ray Lewis. The previous evening Clive was telling me all about the Colorado 600 and I have a new founded admiration for the efforts put out by the locals to keep the trails open.

Between my psychotic android phone and the lack of signal it was a little harder to report in then what I thought...

Yes, "Tough" I would say that is a good description and then Taylor was not exactly a cake walk after Pearl. I will have more to share later.....

I am sure after the Frenches review my Dakar application and see that I am a solid bottom finisher in the C class, they will have to take me.

Not an early prototype, it is just a result of hanging out, drinking too much beer, and brain storming on new ways to be cheap.:lol3

    The Loop (not the luggage)

Pictured below is the actual path that I followed. Without injury or major breakdown I managed to get over Engineer, Ophir, Imogene, Owl Creek, Pearl, Taylor, and a few other not so notable passes.

If someone really wanted a more challenging experience I would substitute Engineer and Ophir for Stoney, California, and Black Bear.

I rode for 4 days and plans for 2 more days however the wheels were following off the wagon at work and I had to return. :cry

I have the GPX tracks if anyone wants them, just PM me. ( I do not know how to attach them to the thread)

    Day 1

I trucked to Del Norte from Sapulpa, OK. My truck parking host was a huge help in allowing me to have a great place to start my trip.

    Thanks Clive!

Heading into the Rio Grande, always packed with good trails....

As I made my way though the Rio Grande, I spotted a lone rider. It appeared he was taking pictures of some cows(not sure) at the bottom of the hill. So I stopped to say hello......... I discovered that it was the Fastest American(Ned Suesse aka neduro) in the 2012 Dakar rally. So I proceeded to act like a 11 year old girl around Justin Bieber.

Turns out he was leading this group from the Colorado 600. Clive (parking host and Trail Preservation Alliance Representative) had explained the motives behind the event and it seemed like a very worth while cause. http://www.colorado600.org/Colorado_600_2012/Welcome.html

To quote Ned in his inspection of the KLR....."is that a pair of pants?" as he was looking at the Newner Loop. :lol3

    More Grande pics.

On my way to Lake City.

    Stopped for some lunch.

Leaving Lake City I noticed a panic in the streets, the Tourist were fleeing for their lives.

This clearly vicious Bear was hell bent on attacking every last one of them, just as soon as it was done hugging this tree.

I quickly raced out of Lake City having survived yet another near death experience. :eek1

Time to look for camp, stumbled upon this camp host who had decorated his camp site in a way that reminded me that I was at some random lake in Oklahoma.

I found some free camping up by Alta Lakes.

My campsite came furnished with fine Crystal and complimentary wiener sticks.

Perfect utensils for my fine dining experience
    [IMG]

I have a perfect understanding of my environment and I have identified the major risk when camping alone....... of course I am speaking of ZOMBIES and if one or two show up I will be ready with my Hack and Bang Zombie kit the ultimate zombie double tap weapons..

So I sleep always keeping an ear out for the mumbling words as I sleep..............BRAAAAINs:huh
