Did I hear right tonight on CBC that they are planning on paving the Dempster??? :eek1
That would be an amazing feat of engineering
If they do that's terrible!! I need to make a trip up there STAT!!
Boss Hoss ...... Check !
I'll believe it when I see it!
Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk road funding announced today.
I did a quick Google search and found nothing on paving the Dempster, but I did find the planning for the Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk Highway. :)
I listened to an interview with the mayor of Tuk on CBC yesterday and he alluded to the extension being gravel, no mention of pavement.
Pave it all and while your at it take out all the curves. Do it for all the roads out there. Safer for everyone.
My good mate and I are planning on riding the Dempster next year. For our sake I hope it's good and gravelly! When is the best time of year to head up that way to avoid the mossies and rain?
The Dempster is getting extended...awesome
The dempster getting extended.....EXCELLENT!!! Done it twice and planned again for next season......they extend it and I'll have to keep going back....the best road in Canada......not to mention all the roads getting there ...lol.
Well, I would not call it the best road in Canada that's for sure, But it is an adventure to ride it.
We'll be able to ride all the way to Tuktoyaktuk.
Thats all the way to the Arctic Ocean.
Extended to Tuk...that would be cool...right up to the ocean. I was up to Inuvik in a camper but never on a bike...next trip up there will be a bike but now I'll wait until the extension is done. Looks to be about an extra 130kms by the way the crow flies...wonder how long it will end up being.
Expensive proposition for a community of 300 but I think it is a good idea for Cdn arctic sovereignty. Plus it might lower the cost of groceries.
Would be a cool ride.
Will be a smaller community once they find out they can just walk out under a warm midnight sun
I suspect it's more for resource extraction than the peeps of Tuk.
You suspect correctly
