Turns out that for KTM decided to change the cylinder head around a bit on the 2015 250XC-W and XC. They have lower compression that the previous years...and from what i hear, a non-working squish band. I heard that KTM wanted the 250 engine to be more "linear"? Sounds to me that the 2015 250 XC-W/XC bikes were "Ready To Ride", not "Ready To Race".
When Kootenai Rider gets back from racing the B1K, i'm hoping i can convince him to swap cylinder heads with me so that i can perform compression tests on both our bikes so that i can get to the bottom of this. But what i really need is to test ride a 300XC-W for a few minutes...
I'll be on my 450, recently converted to 525 tomorrow. It will be my first trail ride on the full DJH engine rebuild. I need one shakedown ride on it before i head to LAB2V next week.

I'm riding Saturday or Sunday. Probably Saturday if your brokeass wants to carpool. Playing work by ear

I could car pool. I'm picking up a friend (not an ADV guy so kind of a loser:lol3) in Hillsboro. My truck will hold three bikes with a little work. Let me know.

Can anyone recommend a place to camp in TSF where beginner riding is accessed from camp? Is Brown's Camp open, or is there a gate somewhere. What's the word on dispersed camping in that state forest? Will be camping this weekend with a buddy who got his 10 yr old a motobike.

Browns Campground is closed, there is a gravel pit that is open to camp as well as dispersed. To find the gravel pit turn right at the stop just before you get to Browns and it is on the right not to far from the stop. The only shitter in the area is at Rogers but it is day use. There is a kids loop right behind the Browns campground and the trails in the area are pretty easy and well marked.

Thanks, T. I heard something about a Lyda Camp. Any 411 on that?

Matt, Diamond Mill is open for camping too and there are some short easy trails visable from camp.

Thanks for info. Stop and say hi if you happen to ride by our camp, wherever that ends up being.:D I'm in a gray Sprinter van these days instead of the red Ford van.

On 6 go past Rogers Camp; after a few miles you will come to Elk Creek Rd on your right; immediately after that on the left is the road for South Fork Prison Camp; take that.

Pass the prison camp, and go until you see a right turn over a small concrete bridge. Lyda is immediately after the bridge. Also, more camping is up the road if you bear left at the intersection after Lyda.

Are there more beginner trails around Brown's or Lyda? Where would you take a kid?

This time of year, Browns shouldn't be too crowded. It has trails running in every direction.

Lyda has few, but a nice fireroad ride will take you to Archers or Hood Raiser.

Browns is probably a better bet for a beginner if absent the crowd of crazies.
