Hey everyone, The Navy moved me down here a couple months ago and I am looking for some people to ride with. Just picked this TM 250 up, put some lights on it and managed to get it registered for the road.

Acwells, Turn that plate horizontal lest you get a stout ticket in the sunshine state.
    316.2085:
The license tag of a motorcycle or moped must be permanently affixed horizontally to the ground and may not be adjusted or capable of being flipped up.

This law says nothing about where the plate should be located, or how visible it should be. It only says that it has to be horizontal and permanently affixed, ie not a flip up license plate. this is a moving violation and carries a fine of $1,141 dollars. the third offense is a felony.

big money there... not that any of us would ever do that on anything but a closed course...

    New Law

<BIG>316.2085(3) Riding on motorcycles or mopeds.—
    </BIG>
<BIG>The license tag of a motorcycle or moped must be permanently affixed to the vehicle and may not be adjusted or capable of being flipped up. No device for or method of concealing or obscuring the legibility of the license tag of a motorcycle shall be installed or used. The license tag of a motorcycle or moped may be affixed horizontally to the ground so that the numbers and letters read from left to right. Alternatively, a license tag for a motorcycle or moped for which the numbers and letters read from top to bottom may be affixed perpendicularly to the ground, provided that the registered owner of the motorcycle or moped maintains a prepaid toll account in good standing and a transponder associated with the prepaid toll account is affixed to the motorcycle or moped.</BIG>
    <BIG></BIG>
<BIG>In Simple Terms: You can have a Vertical License Plate on your motorcycle if you have a toll transponder affixed to the motorcycle and a pre-paid toll account in good standing.</BIG>
    <BIG></BIG>
<BIG>Supposedly, the Toll Authority cameras have a problem reading Vertical License Plates. This and other future changes, which we will discuss at another time, prompted the D.O.T. to add language to the Statute.</BIG>

<BIG><TT>This new law took effect on September 1, 2010</TT></BIG>

Same law I quoted. Dunno anyone that'll have a sunpass on their plated smoker..

Next section says wheelies are not illegal if unintentional.

Every single wheelie I've ever done was unintentional--guess I'm A-OK!!:D

Sometimes that front wheel just wants to jump up in the air, all of a sudden like.

    Especially when Swampy's around:eyes

Its the (3) that makes the differance for 2010. I actually have a transponder for my KTM 525MXC. Call me crazy but I just wanted to prove a point about mounting the tag vertical. I also carry a copy of the 316.2085(3) Riding on motorcycles or mopeds with me in case I get stopped. I really do think it is safer to mount the tag vertical due to possibility of being cut during a get off. I believe the state of Florida was forced to add the transponder clause by the motorcycle accessories lobby. Are you going to Treemans? See you there if you are.
    All the best,
    Terry

What a complete pile of dung. Dung like that makes my teeth itch.

Happy birthday Mr. Vic O! Still in awe mang! You rock! I only have 13 more years till I qualify for that!

Nice meeting you Mr. Terry. Have fun at treemans!

Sunk my "yard improvement/new hobby bike/hobby vehicle money" at the mortgage after chasing a few contractors and cool old cars and bikes around and ultimately giving up. But hey man - with that extra change it's sweet! - now it's less than two years and the deed is mine. Love the little tiny crib. Will look forward to retiring here with itzy-bitzy overhead. Happy, cheap little home OWNER at the old age of about 53+. ZERO overhead. YIPPIE!!! :D

Shoot - I still have some moola left over for that cheap two-smoke I've been a-wantin. Gotta keep my antennas up (y'all do too)!

Love that 2-smoke IT n00b Acwells is sportin'! :clap

Then I'm good then, because the 530 always just happens to unintentionally come flying up in 1st-5th........:rofl.........when located on closed courses........of course!

Wish I could be at Treeman's this weekend, really hate I'm going to miss this ...but I'm already committed to another event that takes precedence. Have fun everyone and ride safe!

316.2085 also includes provisions regarding your front or rear wheel leaving the ground. and your body position while riding:

A person shall ride upon a motorcycle or moped only while sitting astride the seat, with both wheels on the ground at all times, facing forward, and with one leg on each side of the motorcycle or moped. However, it is not a violation of this subsection if the wheels of a motorcycle or moped lose contact with the ground briefly due to the condition of the road surface or other circumstances beyond the control of the operator.

That is just crazy.... I mean what is the fun of riding a motorcycle if you cant ride it backwards, standing up with both legs to one side! Soon we will be back to having to wear helmets!!!
