Killurtv, The Professor, Uncle Teabag, and I set out for a 2 day ride to SE Oregon and the Alvord. Our goal was to ride as little pavement as possible for the approx 400 mile ride there. 260 the first day and from the edge of Bend to the town of Plush we managed under 15 miles of slab.

Meet up for coffee, bagels, and snacks to bring.

Head out behind the landfill in Bend. This is the last pavement we will see for 90 miles. Nothing but primitive roads and 2 track.
Added bonus. The night before it POURED in the desert making for zero dust and perfect traction. ROOSTAFARI!!!:clap:clap:clap

Beautiful piece of countryside you are riding. Oregon is full of surprises.

The 2track in the last couple of picks is the type of riding we did most of the way to Hampton. Was some beautiful riding. I took a whole bunch of photos through here. Unfortunately my camera shutters stuck part way and did something to the focus. They're so blurry you can't even make them out. Total bummer.....:cry
Came out by Frederick Butte and headed for our first stretch of highway. 13 miles of highway 20 to Hampton Station.

Hampton's pumps started leaking a few months ago and they had to shut them down. Double whammy for them. It will cost thousands of $ to fix at a place that doesn't really sell much fuel and the pump failed right after they filled their storage tanks, so now they're sitting on thousands of $ of fuel.
The Professor called ahead and they were kind enough to have fuel waiting for us in cans.

Some great food and friendly people at this stop. If you're ever passing through stop by and have lunch or even just pie and coffee. You won't be disappointed!

From Hampton Station we crossed the Highway to our next section.
Wandered around till we came out on the Christmas Valley Highway.

Where the hell are we! :cromag

    Maybe this way!

Came out in a different spot then we expected but it worked perfect. Headed 2 miles east on pavement then south again on our next section of dirt.
Close to an ODOT station on Highway 395 we go straight across the highway. Our last 20 feet of slab before Plush.
    Then head up this hill.

We are all headed to Plush.

But The Professor starts having problems... And it's getting dark.

I tell him to stop pushing cause Plush isn't "just over that hill":lol3 and you probably just ran out of gas. Killurtv had a gas bladder on his bike so I rode the mile and a half to Plush and he ran back with the bladder. 15 minutes later they both show up and Professor fills his bike up. But it takes less fuel then it should. Hmmmm:hmmmmm
All 4 bikes start up and we head to Hart Mountain. It's dark now.
We soak in the hot springs that night and end the day with a whiskey and beer dinner.

The next morning we took our time getting ready. Bikes were loaded and ready to go by 11am. But Professors LC4 wouldn't start no matter how many times he kicked it over.
Time to trouble shoot. It's determined it's getting fuel.
    So off comes the tank.

And out comes the spark plug.

No spark. Check the wiring, looks good. Check the switch, looks good.
Try to tow start it, it starts! Professor yells "YES"! only to have it die 15 seconds later. More attempts, it won't fire at all now.
So Professor calls it and we ride out of the hole to get cell service and set up a recovery.
There's a good sized group headed to the Alvord from Bend but no one is able to make it to Hart. Killurtv's truck is being driven to the Playa by some friends so it's decided he'll come do a rescue the next morning.
Professor couldn't have broken down in a better spot. He has water, shade, whiskey, food, hot springs, and a book.:norton

So Professor is out of action. Uncle Teabag hurt his back before the trip and toughed out the first day but couldn't take anymore punishment. He took the big roads to Fields and the Alvord

    Killurtv and I continue on!:clap

Well, I drove out this time in the Sprinter hauling bikes, my dog, and Wox. The drive out was quick and painless, much less adventure in the van than any of the above (that would change later).

We arrive Thursday night just as the sun had set and the moon was rising. A surprise guest had also just arrived: N2Moto and Hurley!
We all got to hang out with everyone and get some stories of the ride. There was much speculation about the fate of the Professor.

The next morning, MrDS was already getting ready to leave for a quick (so he thought) ride back to Bend.

Camp dogs waiting for a job to do. Herding motorcycles and drunks is good work if you can get it.

Well on with it! I know what happens but want to see the pics!:lol3

I get up and head down to Fields for fuel and breakfast. Killurtv meets me there in his truck to go rescue Professor. Little does he know what role that Tundra will play in the next few days.

I borrow Kltv's fuel bladder and fill it and my XR in Fields. We also borrow a gas can from Fields Station since I'm going to meet him and help load Professor' POS in the truck.

Took the easy way back to Hart.

    Broken KTM. :1drink
    [IMG]

So I say goodbye, fill my tank, and start heading west. From here I only have 2 miles of pavement back to Bend on a 200+ mile ride. With no towns in between.

I get on the back side of Pine Mountain take a pic and text the guys "Back side of Pine and haven't hit reserve!" I'm about 40 miles from home.

I've made it to this point 300+miles later in under 6 hrs.
I race off again and the very next corner you see in the above pic I though my new transmission blew up.
    Fortunately for me it didn't.

I start calling everyone I know but a complete stranger comes to help.

Posted on our local forum www.BendDualSport.com that I was broke and needed help. Erik posted his phone number within minutes and was headed out with truck and trailer!:clap

We loaded up the old beast and headed back to Bend.
Thanks Erik! I owe you one!:freaky
