Weeks at work spent with some very expensive consultants have meant precious little time to keep up with or report on the Pharaons but I was up late last night/early this morning to see Chavo (Salvatierra) leading through CP3. He tweeted after the stage about being frustrated a bit that after racing for 4 hours alone, he missed out on 3rd spot by a mere 8 seconds.

A Chilean source was reporting that Viladoms may have been out with some rib problems but then he popped up on the time sheets in 7th or so.

As of today maybe, let's see what the Honda team have to offer on the 14th - would be great if Speedbrain get there also :clap

Seems that Helder is the only other possible...but it seems as if Barreda is gaining "lead the pack" experience everytime I follow a race these days. As many others have mentioned that experience is critical :thumb

My thoughts are the same guys...

Helder & Barreda look set to be the ones who will bring the fight to KTM this year

I see yours and Chavo's tweets, it would be interesting to know what the bike problems are, as this is the same set up where for some reason the electrics keep blowing stators :eek1

Przygonski came first on this stage. I'm really happy about that, he has been up there in the top 10-15 for a number of years but seems to battle with consistency. He must be really happy with his performance so far.

Excellent 2nd place from Chavo today, just 51" behind Goncalves. He said his top speed was limited to 130kph in the sand and that Paulo ripped past him like he was in reverse. He needs more power, like HRC supported power. Chavo was very happy with his own speed during the rally and said he had no trouble keeping up with Ullevalsetter.

His goals for Dakar are now a top 20 finish and winner of the non-elite riders. I think he has a good chance.

Villadoms has apparently bruised & cracked his ribs, nevertheless he is doing Morocco in a week... :eek1

Great to see all three of them plus Czachor and Goncalves heading straight over to Morocco after a week in Egypt. Wonder if the recent pace will give them an advantage or if the short recovery time will be a hindrance?

Pål Anders Ullevålseter unfortunately suffered a broken gearbox at Stage 5 and had to wait more than 10 hours in the desert before getting a lift to bivouac with a helicopter. The motorcycle was brought in by sweep truck, so he suffered a 7 hour penalty and ended up 25th overall.

Team Ullevålseter now sends 2 factory engines back to KTM for a rebuild. He rents 3 factory engines for NOK 150 000,-, so they better work :))
