My guess is that these few available black sets are only HALF unobtainium

"... we'll be the last to recognize, where there's shit, there's always flies."
Finished my assembly last night (pardon the cell phone pics):
First fuelling today:
HOT DAMN, that's a sexy beast!
I second that! Bad azz!!! Did you custom fab those crash bars?
They are the Hepco Beckers that have been modified to fit. Need somewhere to mount my D2s, highway pegs and 990 bags ya know!
Are they touratech headlights? I saw your photospread on lights (very good) how do they compare to the euro lights for spread / output?
Looks awesome! I wonder with the safari's and crash tanks if you are wider than a GS's cylinders?
Yes, that is the Touratech headlight assembly. Haven't had the chance to check in the dark yet (only had it running again Thursday evening). I'll see later if I can setup in a similar position to how I did the Euro tests to compare. The TT high is a pencil beam though. Might not work out the same. Suppose I'll throw in the D2s for giggles as well.
Thanks! It certainly doesn't feel as wide as the GS (I recently rented one for a few days while in Vegas). It is now 28" at its widest point.
Tip: When you ride with your buddies who aren't members of the 10G club... leave one of your tanks at home so that they don't feel so capacity-challenged.
Excellent! Looking forward to it.
In case anyone's in the market for a used set...

Trying to get more and cooler air to your airbox?
I decided I don't want to go the Safai Tank route since I like the sleeker lines of the OEM tanks and don't want the bulk of the Supertankers since it's also my daily commuter bike. However I do want longer range from time to time on trips so I changed to 2-into-1 and the Adventure tank, 7.2 gal total, pretty good and tucked out of the way. Just right for local offroad rides, or staying within 250 miles round-trip of a gas station. However still not enough range for the long Way Up North stretches that can go 265+ mi with no fuel, and you may have to turn around and go back at times.
So... I needed to get into the 10+ gal club
Added 3 gal, now I'm at 10.2gal (~350 mi at my worst MPG)
With locking hold-down
Need to go farther? Add Rotopax extension then add another 2 gal, 12.2gal (~430 mi at my worst MPG)
or any combination of Rotopax tanks. Allows using my hard panniers or my soft Wolfman panniers set. If I don't plan to go 2-up I can move the Rotopax mount another 6" father forward for better balance. 10 minute swap to my commuter Givi top case.
SE 30 litres + Adv tank + 3 x 10 litre jerries.
And the last time I ever post this up
Well, I finally got an Australian Post/USPS tracking number from Aqualine on my KTM 990 Adventure Safari Tanks drop-ship order!
Want to send a shout-out and big THANK YOU to Ben and Tom (not to mention our buddy CJ!) for helping to stick a white-hot poker under Aqualine's collective butts to make this happen for me.
