smugmug question: I use the online photo storage only for linking and displaying photos on this and a couple of other forums.

Does the smugmug basic plan allow 3rd party linking?

just got the photobucket extortion email. I always hated their pop-unders and intrusive banner ads, and auto-start audio. Good riddance.

    Hey ...

I would like to try and fix most of the post where I had inserted photobucket links ...

Someone school (I tried but was unsuccessful) me on how to search on a Particular Thread - that returns just the posts that I had made

    Thanks ...

Go to your thread. Click the search button up on the right corner. Search for your screen name.

I've been away from ADV and my other interests due to health problems. But I wanted to quickly stop by and ask a few questions about this PhotoBucket hosting issue.

I used PhotoBucket for all my images here on ADV. Most of those photos are in technically related discussions of Honda's RFVC XRs. So the blocked photos is a bummer for future readers looking to acquire information regarding these old machines.

What I want to know is:
Did Google archive all of my images that were linked to PhotoBucket? And if so, how do you access the Google archive?

If I perform an image search on Google using search terms: "xr600r top end damage"
then the first 4 photo thumbnails that show up are mine.

But clicking on the link in the search results gets you to ADV with the blocked: 'PhotoBucket upgrade your account image'.

Is there any way to retrieve these blocked photos if Google archived it?

For now, it appears that if a photo of interest is blocked in a thread you are reading, then using the correct search terms on Google should at least give you a thumbnail of the original image.

Which for readers of my posts is going to be the only way to get anything, as I'm not paying the ransom, and I will not have the time in this short life to change all my image links.

To me it seems like this PB crap nuked about %70-%80 of the pics on the net.I have a few hobbies and all of the pics at all of the websites I goto have their shitty ransom message. How many past and present inmates on this site are going to take the time to reinstall the pics on their posts?I doubt that many will leaving a trail of boring posts with no pics.I get that PB needed a revenue stream to cover their bandwidth usage but this operational mistake should have been caught years ago.So I guess that PB made their mark on the net forever with their shitty ransom notice.I wish them many years of bad luck.

I'm trying to download my albums ... I have tried 10 to 12 times ... over a period of a few weeks using different browsers and can never get it to work -- I just gives an error(sometimes) and then ceases to work ...

    Any advice ??

Most of the smaller albums downloaded intact. For big albums, I did have to highlight/select all the photos on individual pages and then download those small sets.

Another fine example of figuring out the absolute best way to infuriate and alienate customers.
    What a bunch of
    :asshat

I finally paid the small amount to go to smugmug.com and life is good. Much better control, no incessant barrage of advertising, and no scripts slows my computer down. Shoulda done this years ago!
