Anyone interested in a ride at Sycamore before Zen Moto's Customer Appreciation Day?

MilT, jrproper and I scouted a loop last week that included plenty of double-track, sand and some sweet singletrack! :evil

Sweet! Hey, if it's just us, we'll get to Dillon's early! :lol3

For staging, I'm thinking - Cattle Guard (across from 4-Peaks Rd) at 8 a.m.

You wouldn't need a seat, but a 690 on the singletrack I'm planning might require some heavy lifting. I did this ride last weekend on the 530. This week I'm going to exercise the 300. :deal

Oh, I don't need single-track to make the 690 fall down. Any ol' jeep road will do!:rofl

Have a good time, guys, and be safe!

Yeah, we took it sort of easy today, right Brad?

It has been a while since I took the 300 out. It developed a neat new trick. Smoke rings!

Brad's weapon of choice. The KTM 450 EXC.

    No problem so far!

It's all fun and a little rocky and then there's the first downhill with a little pucker factor.

This one has a natural right at the bottom that takes you into a deep sand wash through a valley.

That's the boring way through. :lol3
    [IMG]

The other way gets much more interesting. :evil

This one is crooked to try to get the camera to meter the scene right. Just tilt your head to get the idea. :D
    [IMG]

And then we got to the first nasty hill.

It probably didn't instill a lot of confidence that I stalled the 300 in about this spot.

    Action shot. :lol3
    [IMG]

    What a hill!

But we weren't done climbing hills. Not by a longshot!

This looked like a smooth hill with plenty of traction. It wasn't. We both had to make a second attempt.

It's not hard with a little momentum!

Back to easier stuff for a bit.

We were on top of a hill watching a helicopter hover in the distance.

And then it took off, following the wash right in front of us! :eek1
    [IMG]

    Flyin' low!

We couldn't tell if it was just doing exercises or actually picking someone up.

But it was fun to watch either way.

Coming off the hill and down toward the wash.

We rode a lot of sand and sand whoops to get to the next section of hardpack. Another hill with ruts and rocks scattered all the way up.

Brad is charging up after the minor off.

Eventually we made our way to the singletrack section I was thinking of... This is the last of the easy stuff for a while. :evil

The easy way to do this is to ride up the step and through the two rocks in the foreground. This isn't the easy way.

Most of the singletrack is like this.

    Or this:

    But sometimes...

    It gets steep!

I think that deserves a closeup!

This is one of those hills that forces you to ride the bike like you mean it.

And then there's the steep downhills.

    Easy does it.

    And bear-hug the saguaro!

It's really best to avoid that.

And he's back up! Maybe a little slower this time.

There are several steps in the trail. This one gives you a few feet of advanced notice as long as you're looking ahead.

And here's one of the last, high-pucker-factor downhills.

This is mostly easy to moderate stuff for Sycamore (I think). We avoided the really nasty stuff. :D

I don't want to go on the harder stuff in Sycamore, this was enough for me. Some of the sections we a little scary for me, thanks to Allen for getting me back to the truck. Some of the hills were a bitch to get up and the down hills definately had some serious pucker factor for me. I will remember this ride.....:eek1

The only way I'd feel safe following Allen on single track is when he's on the SE :deal
