Life has thrown some curve balls at me this year resulting in a total lack of riding. I needed some serious inspiration to get my blood flowing and my Honda 450's carbs atomizing. It seems that the way to a man's carbs is through his suspension.

Today's ride started with a visit to Rob Kozler's MotoLab headquarters in Glendale, AZ, last Monday. Rob was gracious enough to allow me to stay and observe the master at work. Rob is methodical, breaking down each component, ordering it's disassembly, inspecting and measuring for wear, and planning the reassembly to suit my particular riding style and needs (like my big tank and big belly).

Forks coming apart. I wonder what we'll find in there.

I remember when forks had a screw at the bottom to drain the oil and a valve at the top to pump in some air. Crazy complex inner workings going on in there now.

    Some overdue damage repair.

Some stiffer forks springs to carry the extra weight. Plenty in stock to choose from!

Rob measures up with the best of them!

With the forks completed, Rob directed his attention to the rear shock. It seems, the shock is often overlooked and under appreciated! I bear the blame for my poor attention to a proper maintenance schedule. It took some persuasion to get the shock apart.

I believe the technical term is "Fish Oil".

Wow! I thought the forks were complicated!

Shock refreshed and revalved, rough setting the preload.

Now, this is where things get interesting! I got a note the next day from Slowred, "RIDE MONDAY!" Timing couldn't be better! However, now I have to put the Honda back together in time for the ride, and my week and weekend schedule was already nearly full. Got up early Sunday morning to beat the Phoenix heat and started working on the bike.

    Right fork, check!

    READY TO RIDE!!!

Destination 7 mile gulch, Lynx Lake, Prescott, AZ. Slowred brought out his Honda 450x and it would be an EPIC Monday ride in the pines! I couldn't be more excited to try out the new suspension!

We headed straight to the water shed trail. It's long, steep, rocky, and STEEP! The new forks soaked up the rocks and allowed me to confidently pick my line with ease! Slowred and I are pretty evenly matched and we hammered the trails in an attempt to beat the heat. Somewhere west of Senator Highway.

Worked our way to Bodie Mine road, a favorite. Be sure to close and secure all gates!

A quick stop in the vicinity of Trail's End mine.

I was thinking about venturing deeper into the mine, but the entrance was swarming with BEES!! Maybe next time.

We ran into this hen near Palace Station.

She was protecting her flock of poults and didn't quickly run off, giving me time to snap a few shots.

Almost back to the truck, we ran into this problem.

There was dead fall in all directions blocking any attempt to go around. We put our wonder twin powers to work and was able to create a solution.

Slowred displays his ultimate trials tire traction!

Even the Nightstalker was caught in action!!

NICE!!! Good to see you back on the bike Terry. It's been a few weeks for me as well, not liking this heat.

Awesome ride and RR, Nightstalker! Glad I could drag you away from all that studying.

Weekday, playing hooky rides are the best. :D

Reidy and I were up at Trails End Mine two weeks ago, first time either of us had been down that trail. It was a good one!

We never noticed when we passed Bodie mine though, so will have to go back to find that one.

Good to see you back in the saddle. As Azredline said we did just about that exact loop a few weeks back only it was on the big Africa twin and AZ on his XL650. We started out behind Majer though as temps were still pretty good.

    Lets ride:clap
