Been off the bike for like 5 weeks following a HIKING injury (very dangerous!). Yardstick was gracious enough to join me in a rehab ride. Of course, driving to the staging area, we were both independently thinking that we'd take it easy, both of us being off the bike for an extended period and not yet acclimated to Arizona Monsoon heat and humidity.

So, we pretty much decided that instead of riding the hard trails, that we'd ride 'em BACKWARDS! OK, not all of them, but there was one we weren't sure we'd be able to ride backwards. This is the story of the men that attempted to ride that trail, BACKWARDS. Now, if I could only find reverse...

    A steamy 88 degrees at 6:30.

Not too bad once we got moving.

    Groovy trails, lots of them.

I honestly thought that I'd go 20 yards and fall over gasping for air, like a fish out of water. It took me about 3 miles until I fell over. Yardstick didn't want me to feel bad, so he imitated my crash so I could take a picture.

We ran Skyline from north to south. Getting up the hill at the north end is quite a challenge!!

    Some crazy drops.

This was only my 2nd time on Skyline, it hasn't gotten any easier. I'm sure Slowred has some fond memories of riding his BRAND NEW KTM 350 on this trail.

Here we are on the trail we weren't sure we'd be able to run backwards. Yardstick will have to chime in with the name. Doesn't look so good forwards either.

    Foot breaking narrows!

Technically, it's doable! Actually, wasn't as bad as we thought it would be. It was an energy sapping climb for me though.

I think it was like 102 when we got back to the trucks at 10:30.

    25 mile ride today!

    Lots of ups and downs.

Most excellent RR Nightstalker! You guys are studs for braving the heat.

Yes, I remember finding out how well KTM front brakes work on my inaugural ride on the three fiddy. :eek1:lol3

What was the name of that unnamed trail? I don't recognize the spot Yardstick is at in the pic.

Nice ride, I gave up on the valley heat before it even reached 100.
I believe your unknown trail is Indiana West, definitely harder backwards in a couple spots. Even harder when it's hot.:bow

I have been off the bike for about a full five weeks as well. No injuries for me, but I set myself up with a tight timeline to change things in my kitchen before new counter tops were installed. I needed a mellow comeback ride to help blow the sawdust out of my lungs! :lol3

I saw Nightstalker's fall but didn't see why it happened. Probably like mine, got caught in a rut funny and just couldn't steer out of it.

I know Refokus likes this trail.

I think I have a picture of him almost bear-hugging that cactus. :lol3

It's an intimidating turn but the roll-out is smooth.

    On our way to Skyline.

And the reason it's called that.

I think Strappyman is right that this trail is named Indiana West. Definitely harder in reverse. I keep thinking I should have gone for the hop off this ledge. Next time.

I think we were actually back at about 9:30, but 102 sounds about right for the temp.

    Winner, winner! :clap

We were the only two riders in the parking area. There were a couple more vehicles (non-riders with cars/minivans) when we came back but I never saw anyone else around. We did hear some bikes (or quads) but I never saw them.
