The bus in the last picture is also a synagogue - a mobile one.

This is the Sandy Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Randolph County, North Carolina. It's the oldest church building in the county. The church was established by Shubal Sterns and fifteen others on November 22, 1755. They built a church building in 1762 and replaced that with this one in 1805.

It doesn't look much like a church on the outside, but the inside looks the part.

The literature inside says they still meet here twice a month on Sunday afternoons. The building remains open all the time for visitors.

Isn't this what a house of religeous consternation should be? Just you and Him and nothing in between? Everything else is redundant.

Some synagogues are also just like that - walking past you'd never think it's a place of worship:

Or take this Orthodox Christian village church in Bukovina region ( W Ukraine bordering Romania ) - also not much more than a four-corner structure as simple as a barn:

This is a monument of Jesus at a church just north of Cincinnati off of I-75. It was made famous by the Bob and Tom show and referred to as "Big Butter Jesus" or "Touchdown Jesus". I came up out of a pond behind the church but was hit by lightning a while back and burned to the ground/water.

One of the Patriarchs of Constantinople ( the highest rank in the Orthodox Christian hierarchy, equals to the Pope of Rome for the Catholisism ) who'd died while passing these lands on his way back to Constantinople was buried there.

Today is the Christmas day for Orthodox Christians ( still using the Julian calendar unlike most western Christians ) so we've made a tour of half a dozen monasteries:

The latter is the church erected in the XVIIth cent. on the exact place where the first-ever Christian church in the Kiev Rus had been in the early Xth cent. Also, we got married there in 1990...but surprizingly there's no memorial plaque for that yet.

And the first two photographs are in front of the church where in the late 1940ies the first Soviet computer ( they didn't use the term computer though back then ) was assembled. The church building, badly damaged during WWII and disused, had been given to a group of young cybernetics scientists as a laboratory.

Voe me, I'm a poor photographer. These pics only reflect a small fraction of how interesting it all really is.
